Hi I'm Karen! I am a clinical psychologist with over 30 years experience. I'm very passionate about empowering people to realise their true potential. I'm here to guide you to go beyond your thoughts and to discover your true self and the light that shines within you. While traditional psychology deals with the mind, my approach looks at the person as a whole, taking into consideration mind, body and breath. I use a client centred approach to therapy which is integrative and empirically based.

To: Feel more grounded during anxiety, panic, or overwhelm Improve sleep and create greater daily stability Recognise and change unhelpful patterns in relationships, study, or work, while developing healthier boundaries Work through grief, trauma, or major life changes at a manageable pace Build resilience, confidence, and a clearer sense of direction
I have a genuine respect for people and the complexity of what they carry. I value the opportunity to sit with you, understand your experience, and work alongside you through periods of challenge, uncertainty, and change. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, relational difficulties, and emotional regulation challenges. I’m drawn to the moments in therapy where things begin to shift, when patterns become clearer, when someone feels truly heard, and when small changes start to open up something larger. At the heart of my work is a genuine love of people.

I work with adults and older adults struggling with insomnia, sleep anxiety, or poor sleep quality — often people who have tried other approaches without lasting results, or who sense something deeper is keeping their nervous system alert at night.
I specialise in insomnia and sleep disorders, drawing on CBT-I, Compassion Focused Therapy, ACT, and EMDR. My work focuses on understanding what the nervous system is doing when sleep won't come — and building lasting safety, not just better sleep habits. Telehealth across Australia, Tuesday to Thursday.

Once you know exactly ‘what’ to do you will quickly regain control, find your feet, and move forward. I have over 30 years experience helping people and have been a consultant in charge of a major hospital Psychology Clinic. I have also worked in an Anxiety Disorder Clinic, and Family Therapy Clinic. This level of expertise allows for accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment. I employ practical, tested methods. When you are under stress it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that you are powerless and that this is just the way things are. You will start to believe, “I’m not as capable as I once was"

If you are feeling overwhelmed by juggling all the demands of your busy life and you're constantly checking if you're enough to meet your own high standards or the expectations of others, then you're in the right place. No doubt you're starting to feel exhausted by the stress and anxiety that is building up inside you and you may have even adopted some unhelpful habits to help you cope.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
