Sometimes, after years of life being OK, things can just start to unravel, and you find yourself having to find a new way to think, or even a new way to be. At times like this, we start to question what really matters in our life, and we can be uncertain about the best way to move forward. Drawing on my PhD research into sense of self and adult change, I help clients to consider that they just might be entering a whole new stage of adult growth, where their old priorities may need to change, to make way for new, fresh ideas to flow, on who we believe we are, and what is possible for our life.

Once you know exactly ‘what’ to do you will quickly regain control, find your feet, and move forward. I have over 30 years experience helping people and have been a consultant in charge of a major hospital Psychology Clinic. I have also worked in an Anxiety Disorder Clinic, and Family Therapy Clinic. This level of expertise allows for accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment. I employ practical, tested methods. When you are under stress it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that you are powerless and that this is just the way things are. You will start to believe, “I’m not as capable as I once was"

Talking Sleep Psychology

I work with adults and older adults struggling with insomnia, sleep anxiety, or poor sleep quality — often people who have tried other approaches without lasting results, or who sense something deeper is keeping their nervous system alert at night.
I specialise in insomnia and sleep disorders, drawing on CBT-I, Compassion Focused Therapy, ACT, and EMDR. My work focuses on understanding what the nervous system is doing when sleep won't come — and building lasting safety, not just better sleep habits. Telehealth across Australia, Tuesday to Thursday.

I provide support for adults experiencing midlife changes (e.g. perimenopausal depression and anxiety, stress and burnout, sleep and insomnia).
I also offer neuroaffirming Autism assessments for adults. This assessment is not deficits focused but is instead a collaborative process where we explore your experiences, interests, discoveries, preferences, strengths and differences to see if they align with an Autistic experience.

When you come to therapy, you are often carrying more than the emotional pain that brought you here. Alongside the difficulty for which you are seeking help, you may also carry the uncertainty of asking for help in the first place and wonder whether you should be coping better on your own. You may feel anxious about revealing yourself to another person and wonder whether you will truly be understood. Reaching out can be difficult. When you do, I will meet you there. Whatever brings you to therapy, and whatever anxieties accompany that step, they will be welcomed and can become part of our conversation.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
