My counselling draws on my belief that each client's treatment needs to be individualized to his or her unique history and life story, culture, values, strengths and needs. I believe in creating a safe, supportive and non - judgmental environment in which the client will be treated with respect and confidentiality. It is here that the client is supported in finding their value, healing and strength in resolving their struggles and pain. In the last eight years in particular, I have worked with hundreds of couples, helping them address all sorts of dilemmas, from estrangement, to affairs, to divorce and parenting concerns.
I particularly enjoy working with people who are experiencing relationship difficulties. I see many individuals, couples and families, who are struggling with disconnection or conflict in their relationships. This disconnection can often lead to discontentment, feelings of isolation, loneliness and just a general feeling of being misunderstood. My aim is to help each person examine their hopes, needs and concerns, and help them find their own path to a healthier, more satisfying day-to-day existence.

My clinical expertise has been developed in various clinical settings; for the last 20 years I developed evidence-based clinical skills aimed to improve measurable treatment outcomes for individuals aged 18+ experiencing substance misuse issues/and co-morbidity issues, including mood/anxiety/personality disorders, family/ parenting /relationship issues.
Seeking help from a psychologist could be overwhelming and stressful. It may be seen as a sign of weakness or suggest that there is something wrong with the person. My professional aim is to assist the person seeking help in a collaborative, compassionate and authentic manner, in a therapeutic space where personal issues are viewed as opportunities to discover personal strengths, to foster personal growth and improve quality of life. I am deeply committed to empower individuals in overcoming the social stigma associated with mental health issues and I value each person’s uniqueness during their engagement in mental health recovery.

Regardless of what season of life you’re in, everyone needs support, empathy, hope & the opportunity to review relationship & parenting skills.
Whether you’re excitedly planning for your wedding, feeling disappointed in your relationship or the spark has waned after decades of marriage, know I too have travelled the relationship roller coaster of euphoria & broken dreams. The reality is, these relationship struggles can overflow into parenting too. You may be excitedly expecting your first child or perhaps, you're feeling overwhelmed by your children's attitude. Regardless of what stage you're in, hope exists for you to recalibrate your relationships and parenting . I'm looking forward to supporting you to do this, so you can know empowerment & joy in your current season.

These may include ways to manage anxiety, depression, stress, grief, relationships, parenting , identity and chronic illness.
It can be difficult to reach out and seek help... the first step is often the hardest. To gain the most out of the therapy process it can be helpful to be motivated and committed to wanting something in your life/ relationships/ self/ circumstance or situation to be different. This helps you to stay clear about what you want to get out of the counselling process and stay focussed on your goals for change.

Parenting Counsellors

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioural problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilised, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
