I work with Couples and Individuals. Some of the common issues that couples bring to counselling are; communication issues, conflict, a break down in trust, affairs, mental health concerns that are impacting the relationship, lack of emotional and or physical intimacy, conflict and stress over parenting, grief, the impact of past traumas, transitioning into retirement and new relationships. The Imago Relationship Model facilitates a new way of communication that allows couples to understand themselves and their partner more deeply and bring greater safety, connection, healing, growth and joy.

I'm always grateful for the opportunity to provide support, as I'm aware of the bravery that therapy takes, being vulnerable in session is immense. All clinicians at the clinic I run aim to work in a non-directive, client-centred way, meaning the client sets their own treatment goals and we're just the support that holds difficult or overwhelming emotions where needed. This allows the client to drive their own therapy and shows them that they can create a better life. I am currently taking face-to-face clients with immediate availability.

Every person's journey is unique, and I like to understand the background and goals of the people I support to ensure together we create a personalised therapy plan tailored to them. I work with adults, and adolescents and I have a strong interest in supporting people navigating anxiety, grief and loss, PTSD, developmental trauma, CTPSD and the myriad of life's challenges. My approach is twofold: I believe in equipping you with immediate tools to cope with present concerns, while also delving into the roots of these issues – be it past events, deep-seated beliefs, or coping mechanisms – to pave the way for a brighter future.

I specialise in complex trauma and relationship counselling, working with people affected by trauma, child abuse & sexual or domestic violence, mental health, racism, disability and grief.
I bring a biopsychosocial approach to problems. The problems you experience are likely the consequence of your life circumstances. It’s not who you are that’s the problem, but what’s happened or is happening to you. We can’t always change our circumstances but counselling can support you to change how you respond to them and how they affect you.

You might be feeling stuck, burnt out, or overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, depression, addiction, or trauma. Maybe you’re navigating the aftermath of an injury, accident, or workplace incident, and the process feels as exhausting as what brought you here. For over two decades, I’ve supported young people and adults through these experiences, in community, hospital, and justice settings. My work spans general clinical care as well as forensic and medico-legal practice, including SIRA/WorkCover and CTP claims. A significant part of my practice also involves supporting first responders and others in high-stress, high-complexity roles.

I have undertaken a number of additional trainings: Levels 1 and 2 Gottman Method Couples therapy, ASIST suicide prevention training, DV alert - domestic violence awareness and support training along with many others.
When women start drifting towards 40 and beyond, something shifts. Nobody warns you. Just all of a sudden, things hit a little differently. There's often an inner rage that is harder to contain. The body is changing and shifting, right along with your tolerance levels. Relationships are becoming a lot more challenging to navigate. Sometimes a sense of despair, and an inner voice asking, 'is this really all there is', can start to get uncomfortably loud. And something else can happen... old wounds we thought we'd long forgotten, start becoming raw again. "I thought I was over this stuff..." - a not infrequent thought.

Human beings are a part of evolution's legacy, and despite some contrary indicators to this, I like the idea that we are at the leading edge of an unfolding universe. That makes us complex, and since birth we've made it this far by having a bunch of needs met. But needs change as we grow and often we end up with deficiencies in those needs that cause pain and suffering. To thrive there are universal human needs that must first be met, including needs to be seen and heard, understood and respected. Both individual and couple therapy offer the opportunity for those needs to be met, so we are better equipped to move on.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognise that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
