Grief Psychologists and Therapists in Toongabbie, NSW
I support individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions and addiction.
You may notice that despite your best efforts, stress, conflict, or painful memories keep resurfacing. Your mind might race, your body may feel tense, or you may find it hard to stay present and calm. These experiences are not signs of weakness. They’re signs that your nervous system has been working hard to keep you safe. Over time, those protective responses can leave you feeling disconnected, on edge, or exhausted. Healing begins when we start to listen to these signals with curiosity and compassion, understanding what your mind and body are trying to tell you, and gently creating space for balance and renewal.

My focus is entirely on your unique relationship with your pet and supporting you through your loss.
My path to counselling has been shaped by a deep reverence for the bond between humans and their companions. I believe in the power of sitting with you in the “unknowing.” I don’t rush to find easy answers to life’s unfairness; instead, I offer a real, authentic relationship where you are seen and held exactly as you are.

Many of my clients are thoughtful people navigating uncertainty, loss, major life decisions, or periods where life simply feels stuck.
Sometimes the hardest part isn't deciding what to do.
It's making sense of what's happening.

Coping rather than living? And old patterns no longer work the way they used to?
You may feel overwhelmed, lonely, disconnected, or unsure of who you are becoming. These experiences are more common than most people realise, and they often reflect a deeper internal shift or life reassessment. With over a decade of experience in mental health in Australia and the UK, I’ve seen how common these turning points are and how much relief comes from having a grounded, genuine space to talk about them.

We may feel uncomfortable talking to family and friends about things like grief we still experience following the death of a significant person many years ago, or abuse we’ve suffered in our childhoods.
There are many different ways in, which I engage with people in therapy depending on the needs of the individual and the moment. However, some central themes for me are ‘care of the soul’ and ‘Know thyself’ - being understood deeply in an environment of empathy, curiosity, compassion, and collaboration.

I work with clients to explore and understand what is going on in their lives and within themselves, so they can live differently. My experience shows that clients often know what they do not like about themselves and their lives. However, it can be tricky to flip the coin and identify, at a deeper level, their needs and what they truly value. I listen carefully and help you understand yourself.
Together we identify goals and work towards them. There is no one size fits all plan or type of therapy that provides a magic wand. However there are better ways of doing therapy over others.

I've spent my counselling career in grief and loss, supporting clients through illness, bereavement, caring, and the various losses that come with major life transitions. I'm not into toxic positivity – sometimes life really is hard – but I can offer a space to laugh and cry and rage and vent, and find ways together to keep moving forward.

Do you feel somewhat stuck? Perhaps overwhelm, physical pain or yearning for something different? Maybe you'd simply like to do better? Why not consider a coupling of counselling, clinical hypnotherapy and strategic psychotherapy? Unaware, you may be running outdated patterns which are at odds with the YOU of today, making it difficult to navigate and effect change. I use permissive Ericksonian hypnotherapy (particularly the Gordian Pillars) to uncover well-worn patterns of stuckness, then gently infuse the subconscious with alternate options. Safe, effective, gentle and life-changing.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
