A different kind of therapy that goes beyond words - for kids, adolescents, and adults. You might know that something isn't quite right, but struggle to explain exactly what you're feeling. Perhaps you've spent years talking about your experiences, without feeling like anything has really shifted. As an art therapist and registered counsellor, I combine psychotherapy with creative, body-based and experiential approaches. This might involve talking, making art, movement, imagery, mindfulness—or simply having space to slow down and notice what's happening within you.

I'm a clinical psychologist who works with people who are hoping to cope better with strong moods such as sadness, low mood or depression, anger or if feeling constantly worried, nervous or anxious. “I am so looking forward to getting to know you as a unique individual, and working together to create the life you wish for. I believe that creating sustainable change is only possible when working with people holistically. I have always cringed at traditional, clinical styles of therapy, so instead I am committed to treating you as a real person and working together to help you live your best life. I love it when people take a proactive approach to their mental health. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t appreciate how much of a privilege it is to get to know my clients and work together with them in a meaningful way"

I work with you as a whole person, your inner world, your body, your relationships, your sense of meaning and identity. I target core issues, rather than treating a set of symptoms. Whether you're an individual or a couple that's working through a crisis, a pattern that's no longer serving you, or a quiet sense that something's not right, real change is possible. There's always a way to work and grow through it.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
