Hello! have a Bachelor Degree in Naturopathy and over fifteen years of experience as a movement-oriented therapist. Using the principles of Gestalt Therapy, I offer a relational and embodied approach to my clients. I started my therapeutic journey as a client so I appreciate the courage it takes to make the first step. I understand how it feels to struggle and feel stuck. I believe that therapy is about exploring, discovering, experimenting and being vulnerable. I am originally from Brazil and I am particularly inspired by other cultures and beliefs. The process of healing is a journey that looks different for everyone.

I believe we are all doing the best we can with what we've got, but sometimes we don't have the right skills or viewpoint from which to understand and resolve the issues that cause us to suffer. Our old coping strategies fail and we become stressed, depressed, anxious, isolated, angry, fed up, stuck, lost or hopeless. And there's a voice in us that says we've got to figure it out for ourselves, we mustn't burden others or others won't understand us. I'll listen deeply and work beside you to find your own answers, in a confidential, non judgemental, safe space. We all need to be seen and understood and to understand ourselves.

I believe that every person deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported — especially those who’ve spent years feeling like they don’t quite fit the mould. As a neurodivergent-affirming counsellor, my goal is to offer a safe space where you can begin to unmask, explore your authentic self, and build a life that works with your brain, not against it.

Hi, I’m Bethanie, and I believe that healing begins in safety and connection. Whether you’re navigating relationship pain, carrying the weight of past trauma, or feeling emotionally overwhelmed, you don’t have to go through it alone. Most of the people I work with come in feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or just stuck. Sometimes it’s the heaviness of trauma or anxiety that won’t shift. Sometimes it’s the tension in their relationship, the same fights on repeat, or the silence that says more than words ever could.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
