I am a clinical psychologist who works across a variety of presentations including anxiety and mood disorders. I hope to bring a warm, empathic and authentic approach to the issues that people bring to therapy. I recognise the investment that people make when they share their difficulties with someone and commit to therapy, and work to honour that commitment by delivering evidence based treatments, that are tailored to a persons needs. I’ve benefitted greatly from the experience of working across a range of inpatient and outpatient hospital settings.

Outside of psychotherapy, I've also worked in depth with complex mental health issues within in the community for NDIS, and as a Behaviour therapist for adults, children, and families also within the NDIS space. I connect well with adults and adolescents by offering a unique expressive practice including a variety of talk therapy modalities and creative modalities. Expressive therapies are particularly helpful for those who find it difficult to connect with a therapist and perhaps feel like they've told their story many times before.

I specialize in Trauma Processing and this is where i find that the most positive outcomes are from. I love to talk to people and hear their story then we work out together what is the core beliefs and where that this might come from. Then we work on processing any trauma from childhood or other parts of life. This impacts greatly on the story that you tell yourself and the patterns of behavior that you want to change. I don't want people to be sitting talking to me for years with no breakthrough or change in behavior. I want you to be living your life to the fullest with maximum joy!

I work with adults who experience anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress, low self-esteem, grief, sleep disturbance, low motivation, family or other close relationship challenges, workplace stress among other issues. Together, we can think about ways to reach into your inner resources to be your most resilient self, whether that means accessing more self compassion, assertiveness, better boundaries or challenging those old beliefs that no longer serve you. I do not undertake work involving active or anticipated court proceedings, nor do I provide services to couples or to individuals under the age of eighteen.

You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin therapy, whether you’re seeking support for yourself or for your child. Many people and parents come in unsure of what the exact goal should be, they just know things could be better. If you’re open to exploring what change might look like and willing to try small steps between sessions, we can make real progress together. I value honesty and appreciate when clients or parents feel comfortable sharing what’s helping and what still feels stuck. Therapy works best when it feels like a genuine team effort.

I offer in-person, online and phone sessions.
Compassion for the human condition and the premise that we are not passive victims of our circumstances but have freedom to choose how we want to be, are the main foundations I work with. I believe that we all possess the natural self-healing capacity that is seated in the deep center of our being, and I see psychotherapy as the work of finding, unlocking and opening doors through which healing can flow, and seeds towards transformation can be nurtured. I also approach all the suffering and pain that clients present, as an opportunity to use the crisis for personal growth and as a pathway to a deeper connection with the true self.

Sessions are available at Ettalong Beach or via telehealth.
Maybe you've always been the one who keeps it together. Or maybe you've spent years feeling like something is just off — in your relationships, in how you see yourself, in the patterns you can't seem to break no matter how hard you try. You're not imagining it. And you don't have to keep navigating it alone.

FAQ - About Online Therapy
Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?
One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialised therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?
Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?
The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
