We all hit bumps in the road of life. It could be you’ve had something big happen, like the end of a relationship, the loss of someone you loved, or being let go from a job. It might be you don’t feel happy, even tho’ your life appears pretty good from the outside. Maybe you feel disconnected or overwhelmed emotionally, or you feel tired and stuck and lack the motivation to go after the life you want. You may realise that you keep sabotaging yourself or choosing unsuitable or unavailable partners but you can’t work out why. Maybe you want to get to know yourself better and feel comfortable about who your are. Therapy can help.

I primarily work with people struggling with Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Addiction, Trauma, Relationship issues and Eating Disorders which may be affecting their relationships, work and enjoyment in life.
I love working with people who are seeking change and therapy in a supportive non judgmental space. I am able to support everyday issues and more severe psychological distress by viewing people in their whole being. Goals of treatment not only involve reducing emotional distress, and the absence of illness, but the ability to flourish in life. I am a board approved supervisor and am experienced working discretely with professionals and other clinicians who are experiencing their own mental health challenges.

Hi, I’m Jack. I am a psychotherapist, educator, father and long term partner and I came to this work through my own experiences with therapy. I have come to trust that both acceptance and change are possible in our lives. There are many reasons we may begin therapy; we may long for change or hope for opportunities for healing, growth and transformation. Whether there is a particular thing you are struggling with, a need for greater support, or an interest in deepening self-awareness, I can support you on your journey.

Trauma, anxiety, relationship issues, insomnia are areas of special interest.
I offer in-person psychological counselling in Gold Coast and Byron Bay, plus Telehealth worldwide. Counselling can be an empowering process that supports you to develop a deeper understanding of the barriers that are preventing you from living a full and enriching life. Many people experience difficulties with truly understanding themselves, why their relationships are stressful or dissatisfying, why they feel they're not succeeding in their work, why they engage in self-defeating behaviour patterns and self-critical ways of thinking. Counselling can help you answer these "whys" and support you in making the necessary changes.

I work with clients who face challenges with trauma, mood concerns, and relationship issues.
Healing doesn't have to take a lifetime. Experiential therapy can help you get back to a calm, confident self, sooner. I am a lived experience and neurodivergent therapist, trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Coherence Therapy. These approaches engage the brain's natural memory reconsolidation process, which allows for rapid transformation of traumatic memories, thereby dissolving symptoms such as anxiety, people pleasing, self-sabotage, and depression. These aha! moments in experiential therapy can help us develop a new relationship with ourselves and profoundly shift our old reaction patterns in daily life.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
