Hi I’m Mike. I am a men’s coach, relationship therapist, mindfulness facilitator, blogger and a podcaster. I live a stone’s throw from the beach with my partner of 10 years and my 6 year-old daughter and 1 year-old son. When I’m not in the playground, I love composing music and swimming in the river at Brunswick Heads.

My areas of expertise include: relationship issues, mens issues, depression, anxiety, dreamwork, addictions, trauma, chronic illness, self-esteem issues and internal critics.
I’m an industry-accredited psychotherapist and a coach. I love connecting with people. Sometimes we experience a sense of stuckness in life and things can seem as though they are on a loop. We are bothered by inner resistance, doubt, restlessness, or anxiety. There may be challenges showing in our relationships, work, dreams and physical wellness. These symptoms could be signalling that something is emerging, something quite useful. It’s entirely possible that this is an invitation to grow, to learn, to change. I will support you to explore what is happening in a safe and meaningful way.

I work with individuals that want a deeper connection to themselves and others, so they can find their own way forward with their lives. Whatever is getting in your way (e.g. anxiety, trauma, depression, relationship issues) I can help you embody and ground yourself so that your nervous system can settle, and we can journey towards the root causes and release them from your body and behaviour. I love helping people come home to themselves. I find this to be the most empowered way of moving through life.

Extensive experience and training in addictions and childhood and adult trauma further supports my clinical work with couples and individuals.
In an age where we are loosing connection with our selves and others, I was inspired to establish a space to support people to manage life and all the stresses that come with it. Challenging times in life can lead to a disconnect, a sense of hopelessness, fear and isolation. It's a sign of strength to reach out for support. Humans are born wired for connection – it’s in our DNA. Through Psychotherapy, Counselling and mindfulness practices my intention is to facilitate connection, awareness and healthy emotional relationships with ourselves and in turn, those around us.

Life offers us all challenges, sometimes huge, sometimes small, these challenges present themselves so that we may grow and in the process become wiser. I will support you to lean into your experiences rather than moving away from feelings, learning to befriend them and in the process develop a closer relationship with yourself and others. Developing emotional agility is a natural outcome of therapy that provides agency for change. Issues include parenting, relationships, depression, anxiety, life direction, addiction and trauma.

My work extends from individuals to couples and groups.
Do you feel overwhelmed, exhausted or struggling with motivation? Do you have sensitivities that leave you feeling judged by others, or misunderstood? Do you feel pressure to conform to societal norms and expectations, which leaves you feeling "othered" and isolated? I see you! You are not alone and you don't have to work this out by yourself. Together we can explore your lived experience and the many ways it impacts your sense of self, worthiness and belonging.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
