When relationships feel strained or your child is struggling, it can be hard to know where to begin. You may feel stuck in the same arguments, distant from your partner, or unsure how to best support your child’s emotional or behavioural needs. Seeking therapy can feel vulnerable — but it can also be the beginning of meaningful change. I am a Clinical Psychologist working with couples, children, adolescents and families. My approach is evidence-based, trauma-informed and grounded in attachment science.

Separation and divorce?
In my work with clients, I strive to create an empathetic environment that is warm, supportive, and relaxed because I believe being heard can give you the greatest feeling of relief you may ever experience on your healing journey. I know (personally!) the courage it takes to share your challenges with a counsellor so hearing your story would be an honour.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or like you’re constantly holding it together for everyone else. Many people I work with feel stuck in the same relationship patterns, disconnected from those they love, or weighed down by past experiences or trauma. I’m Bethanie, a social worker based in Camden, South West Sydney. I offer a warm, supportive space where you don’t have to explain or minimise how hard things feel. Together, we slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and work toward feeling calmer, more connected and more like yourself again.

You might be coming to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or caught in patterns that don’t yet make sense. I work in a warm, attentive way, focusing first on helping you feel understood. Together, we’ll gently make sense of your emotional experiences and the ways they show up in relationships, supporting changes that feel meaningful, possible, and grounded in a stronger sense of self.

I am passionate about working with diversity. As a queer, neurodivergent therapist, I seek to create an authentic and safe space for people to bring their whole selves. I am passionate about people making changes in their lives through building shame resilience and practising radical self-acceptance and self-compassion. I support people reframing core beliefs that may have been profoundly misunderstood. I love supporting people through finding liberation from systems and constructs that have kept us from embracing who we are.

My ideal client is across the age span who is not defined by their diagnosis or demographic but rather their openness to their therapeutic process. They may struggle with anxiety, depression, relationship issues or even adjustment to injury/diagnosis. What they truly need is a safe space to be seen and understood, Their goals begin with symptom relief but evolve into deeper self-understanding, emotional resilience and authentic living. They seek meaning, healthier relationships and self-compassion. Ultimately, they want to reconnect with themselves & live a life aligned with their true values

Divorce Therapists
How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
