I work with adults navigating complex challenges, including trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, chronic stress, and addiction. Many clients come to me feeling trapped in unhelpful cycles, overwhelmed, and unsure of how to move forward. My role is to provide a compassionate, non-judgmental space for collaboratively exploring these experiences. I support clients in understanding how past events shape their present, help them to process and heal, reconnect with their strengths, build healthier coping strategies and ultimately begin living a fulfilling, balanced, resilient, and empowered life that aligns with their values.

We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak. (Epictetus). Throughout my training to become a psychologist, I observed an emphasis that was placed on skills such as clinical knowledge, research, and critical thinking. Through my journey practicing as a psychologist, I have come to see that while such skills are crucial in being able to provide care and support to others, they lose some of their value without the ability to listen and show the patience that people deserve.

Carers strive to balance their loved one's quality of life with their own well-being. Finding the balance to reduce burnout is a common goal. Therapy could be focused on coping strategies for processing difficult emotions or managing the logistics of ongoing problem-solving. Maintaining healthy relationships and issues with family dynamics is also a common struggle. Carers often seek support for a difficult life transition such as after receiving a diagnosis or transitioning a loved one to permanent care.

I am a clinical psychologist who works across a variety of presentations including anxiety and mood disorders. I hope to bring a warm, empathic and authentic approach to the issues that people bring to therapy. I recognise the investment that people make when they share their difficulties with someone and commit to therapy, and work to honour that commitment by delivering evidence based treatments, that are tailored to a persons needs. I’ve benefitted greatly from the experience of working across a range of inpatient and outpatient hospital settings.

My clients are adults carrying something for a long time without a name for it. Functioning on the outside. Holding careers, relationships, and families together. But underneath, something keeps surfacing in the same patterns, the same arguments, the same sleepless nights. Many are navigating major transitions. A career change. A relationship ending. A move across countries or cultures. Some carry the invisible weight of expectations that were never theirs to own. All of them have reached a point where something has to shift. I work with them to find what is underneath. Not to fix them. To help them finally see themselves clearly.

I believe our sexuality is a unique and integral part of who we are, and deeply connected to our sense of well-being. My approach to Sex Therapy combines a comprehensive understanding of integrative health, sexual function and relational psychology. I firmly believe that a healthy sex life is a fundamental human right, and I know for many of us, traditional sex education has been non-existent or misleading. Unfortunately, difficulties in this area can have a profound negative impact on our self-esteem, relationships, and overall well-being. However, it doesn't have to be this way.

This assists clients with decision making, problem solving and focusing on adaptive rather than unhelpful coping styles. Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
