Dialectical Behaviour (DBT) Psychologists and Therapists in Petersham, NSW
I'm a trauma-informed counsellor with extensive experience in DBT.
Many people come to counselling feeling stuck in survival mode. They are overwhelmed, constantly overthinking, emotionally reactive, or caught in the same relationship patterns they promised themselves they would not repeat.
I work with people who are tired of analysing everything and still feeling the same. In our work together, we slow things down so you can understand what is driving your reactions, regulate your emotions, and respond differently with more clarity, control, and self-trust.

As a prior teacher, I understand kids, and I provide evidence-based therapy tailored to each client’s needs, including EMDR, CBT, ACT, and DBT.
Welcome - I am a Clinical Psychologist providing in-person and telehealth services, with over 25 years of frontline experience as a Police Officer, Detective, and United Nations Peacekeeper.
I work with people who are used to carrying responsibility, pushing through stress, and looking after others before themselves. Often, they have spent years managing pressure quietly; work, partners or as fathers, before reaching a point where stress, anxiety, burnout, anger, sleep problems, trauma, or emotional exhaustion begin affecting daily life.
I provide a practical global evidence based approach to therapy and a good dose of humour.

Do you feel like your brain works differently — and that most therapists don't quite get it?
I'm Gabi, a registered clinical psychologist in North Strathfield, Sydney. I work with adults and couples — including neurodiverse, neuro-mixed (where one partner is neurotypical), both-neurodiverse, and neurotypical couples navigating relationship difficulties.
I completed training in couples coaching for neurodiverse relationships. When you come to me as a couple, I'm not adapting a generic approach — I have a methodology built specifically for how neurodiverse brains experience love, conflict, and connection.

I utilise Schema Therapy, with elements from a range of other therapy models (eg ACT, IPT, DBT, CBT) where needed, particularly when assisting people to develop new skills.
In-person appointments are held in Dulwich Hill, in Sydney's Inner West. For online sessions, we will use Microsoft Teams. It is understandable to feel ambivalent about starting therapy (or starting over, with a new therapist). Many people aren't sure if they will 'click' with a therapist or get the results from therapy they are looking for.

I like to bring both of our humanness to the therapy space. Messiness, with no judgment. I welcome tissue-filled tears, and embodied emotion, raw reflection, and a light touch of humour. The Kind Collective is a safe and secure space for healing, where you are invited to show up authentically, and you can trust that as your therapist, I will do the same. We move away from the textbook because life is never that scripted, and don’t approach with a one-size-fits-all, instead meeting you where you are, honouring and holding space for your unique story and needs.

Dialectical Behaviour (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
