Internal Family Systems (IFS) Psychologists and Therapists in North Parramatta, NSW
I draw on trauma-focused work, IFS, CBT, DBT, ACT, somatic and mindfulness approaches — but the modality is never the point.
If you've found your way here, something in your life is asking for change. Maybe it's the weight of experiences you've never quite been able to set down. Maybe it's a pattern that keeps repeating no matter how hard you try to outthink it. Maybe it's the quieter ache of feeling far from who you used to be. The people I see are often capable, thoughtful, and quietly tired of carrying it alone. Therapy with me is collaborative and paced to you — grounded in the belief that you are not a problem to be fixed.

Life can look fine on the outside, while feeling overwhelming on the inside. You may be carrying grief, trauma, anxiety, burnout, or a quiet sense that you've lost touch with yourself. Perhaps you've spent so long coping that you're no longer sure what feeling okay is supposed to look like. We'll work to understand what's keeping you stuck, and help you move towards a life that feels more grounded, meaningful and authentic.

Empowering and supportive therapy, helping you heal past trauma, build healthier relationships, and reconnect with your true self. You might be struggling in your relationship, repeating the same painful patterns, or feeling lost after a breakup. Maybe you have been carrying the weight of past trauma for a long time, and it is starting to affect how you see yourself and your place in the world. I understand how trauma can impact relationships, creating hard to break patterns that leave you feeling disconnected, or unworthy of love.

I'm an IFS therapist and PACFA registered counsellor, with over 13 years across hospitals, rehabs and community services and a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health and Neuroscience.
Most people who reach out to me are holding it together on the outside. Working, showing up, doing the things. Underneath, something has been carrying too much for too long. Trauma, addiction, anxiety, burnout, grief, relationship stress, or that stuck feeling that's hard to name. Some don't know where to begin, only that things can't keep going the way they have. Therapy is a place to slow down and make sense of what's been happening, at your pace.

I work with adults who may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, often living with anxiety, low mood, past trauma, or relationship struggles that don’t seem to shift. You might look like you’re coping, but inside feel exhausted or self-critical. Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to hold it together. I integrate talk-based and body-aware (somatic) practices to help you understand your emotions, relate to yourself with compassion, and create meaningful, lasting change. So you can feel more at home in yourself, even in the midst of life’s challenges.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or like you’re constantly holding it together for everyone else. Many people I work with feel stuck in the same relationship patterns, disconnected from those they love, or weighed down by past experiences or trauma.
I’m Bethanie, a social worker based in Camden, South West Sydney. I offer a warm, supportive space where you don’t have to explain or minimise how hard things feel. Together, we slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and work toward feeling calmer, more connected and more like yourself again.

Many of the people I work with have reached a point where life no longer feels as it once did. They may be living with anxiety, trauma, grief, burnout, relationship difficulties or navigating a significant life transition. Others come with a quiet sense that they have become disconnected from themselves and are seeking greater clarity, meaning and direction.
Whatever brings you here, we begin by taking time to understand where you are, what has shaped your journey, and what is calling for your attention. Together we create the conditions that support healing, growth and a way forward that feels authentic and deeply your own.

I believe we all deserve a supportive space where we can safely explore the issues that matter to us, at our own pace. I aim to facilitate that space and provide a service based on a collaborative style, where clients are active participants and can exercise their autonomy whilst enhancing their understanding of themselves, their inner, and outer world. You may be feeling stuck, anxious, or depressed, while you try to navigate your experiences. I believe that by gaining insight and self awareness you can make meaning of these experiences and find your own answers, create and achieve your goals, and reach a new beginning.

Life doesn’t always unfold the way we expect. Relationships change, stress builds, or past experiences begin to surface in ways we didn’t anticipate. Many of the people I work with feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns that are hard to shift on their own. Some are navigating difficult relationships, trauma, life transitions, or simply a sense that something isn’t working anymore. Therapy can be a space to slow things down, make sense of what you’ve been carrying, and begin moving forward with more clarity and support.

I draw on IFS-informed parts work, state-based interventions, and experiential approaches including Gestalt and active imagination.
Many of my clients are thoughtful, introspective people who understand themselves well but still feel stuck. They carry unresolved trauma, attachment wounds, anxiety, grief, or relationship difficulties. Some are navigating life transitions or identity questions. Others feel internally divided, disconnected from themselves or the people they love. A significant number hold Christian faith and want their inner life and spiritual life to work together rather than against each other. Whatever brings them in, most share one thing: they want more than coping. They want something to actually change.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
