Whether it is mental ill health, challenging life circumstances or simply times of change, life can sometimes feel tough. I work with adults and couples to help you understand yourself and grow through life's adversities. My area of interest is helping those who have experienced trauma or life transitions regain quality of life and a sense of self, helping women navigate the challenges of mid-life, and helping couples find each other again. I want to understand you, how you see yourself and your life and how you would like it to be different. Reaching out is all it takes to start creating the life you want.

We all carry stories about who we are & how our experiences have shaped us. Sometimes those stories feel limiting or out of step with the person we want to become. I support children, young people, & adults to move through challenges using a blend of narrative therapy, kinesiology, & mind–body approaches. Together we explore what’s getting in the way, strengthen what’s already working, & create new possibilities for how you want to live. I have extensive experience supporting young people with school, learning, & emotional regulation, as well as adults navigating relationships, mental health, parenting, work & life transitions.

I believe that trust is the highest form of human motivation and tricky situations challenge it in ourselves. We can have strengths that are as salient and unique as the barriers we face. My clients can have a good insight into themselves or their situation. They may have qualities that set them up for life or have achievements and yet experience significant setbacks that impact their mental health. I work largely with women navigating their pregnancy, parents with young children (up to 4 yrs), immigrants or people of a multi-racial background navigating change in a personal or professional context.

My focus is entirely on your unique relationship with your pet and supporting you through your loss.
My path to counselling has been shaped by a deep reverence for the bond between humans and their companions. I believe in the power of sitting with you in the “unknowing.” I don’t rush to find easy answers to life’s unfairness; instead, I offer a real, authentic relationship where you are seen and held exactly as you are.

Hi, I’m Jake. Have you ever wondered what your life would feel like if you were able to understand yourself and the people around you in a different way? Sometimes all we need is to learn how to relate to ourself in a new way, which naturally brings forward our best qualities, making life more enjoyable and mentally calm. I work with clients experiencing a variety of challenges, such as anxiety, low self-confidence, stress, addiction, relationship struggles and confusion around gender or sexual orientation. We will work together to gain deep insights into whatever you bring to therapy and then co-create the best strategy forward.

One of the barriers to self-care is allowing yourself to go into the depths of your experiences. Often, we are challenged to explore and understand this profound chasm, to touch what is held there, to hear its messages, and to connect with compassion to the raw emotions that have been lying dormant for years or just surfaced. By peering into the abyss, we can gain deeper understanding of ourselves and insight into the meaning of our lives; transforming and opening up possibilities the future could hold for us.

Therapy aims to better understand what's going on in a young person or adult's life that has led to current functioning. This is done through holding curiosity and exploring your early life experiences, family of origin, current context, and identifying your strengths and resources. Together we work on building a unique tool kit to support your care and wellbeing. Therapy takes courage and at times can feel uncomfortable. My aim is to create enough safety and collaboration that we can be open to new ways of seeing things or creating new pathways forward.

I am based in the Port Stephens area and work with clients across Australia via Zoom. I have experience working with trauma, addiction, codependency and a wide range of mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. Clients come to me with issues around self harm, suicidality and relationship concerns. I use a range of therapies to offer a unique experience. Not every space feels right and at times it is hard to open up in a way that actually helps. I offer a space where you can feel met and where you can start to make sense of what is keeping you stuck.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
