Going to therapy isn't for the faint of heart and it’s not an easy process. Sometimes you can be so overwhelmed that you have trouble prioritising your own needs. You don't know where to start to make things better. However, what you get out of therapy is directly related to what you put into it. And I will match your dedication. The process of healing and recovery is also one of accepting, becoming and realising.

You may appear to be coping on the outside, while inside feeling quite lost, empty, or disconnected. Others may not see it, but you might feel far away from yourself, unsure of who you are or what you truly want. Many people try to move away from this through achievement, relationships, or constant busyness — but sooner or later, something brings them back to a deeper question of themselves. In therapy, we begin to slow things down and make space for what is there. It becomes a place where you can start to understand your inner world, and gently find your way back towards yourself.

My path to counselling has been shaped by a deep reverence for the bond between humans and their companions. I believe in the power of sitting with you in the “unknowing.” I don’t rush to find easy answers to life’s unfairness; instead, I offer a real, authentic relationship where you are seen and held exactly as you are.

The goal of a psychologist, in my view, is to provide insight and understanding into the hidden parts of the self. My intention is to support my clients to develop their understanding of themselves, to learn the skills to persevere independently, and to heal themselves. I am open to working with all individuals and work with both adults and adolescents. I have a particular interest in working with the following presentations: • Confusion about identity, belonging and purpose • Experiences of adversity and trauma • Problematic or harmful behaviours • Addiction issues • Individuals involved in the justice system

If you're struggling with disorder eating, intense emotions, or feeling disconnected in your relationships, you're not alone and you don’t have to face it on your own. You might find yourself caught in unhelpful patterns with food, body image, or self-worth. Perhaps you're looking to understand yourself more deeply, feel more in control, and begin to heal longstanding issues.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
