Counselling provides a space for sharing your story, exploring your own inner wisdom, insights and new perspectives with compassionate support. You may start to notice changes such as less reactivity, less irritation, improved connection with friends, loved ones and yourself.

Isn’t this thing called life so interesting! The ups and downs and challenges we face as we live our lives. Humans are great problem solvers and mostly we can be pretty good at working things out. But sometimes we can’t – we can feel stuck, unsure, lost and more. Friends and family can be too close to be impartial, or might be part of what we are struggling with. This is where counselling can be useful. To sit with someone who hears and sees us as we are. Some days you might need to sit and cry, other times to have someone cheer you on as you lean in hard, and other times it might be to learn something new about yourself.

I work with a person-centred approach, within it I pull from my years of experience in all areas of mental health. The therapeutic strategies and interventions I predominantly work with are the behaviour focused therapies of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Above all I hold the up most importance in developing a good therapeutic relationship between client and therapist, within it a emotional bond of trust, caring and respect is created, which allows for a safe space where healing can take place.

I work with a select amount of clients at a time, authentically, with a range of treatment modalities in my toolkit. To help guide, or just help you to rediscover inner freedom. I am also a clinical Nutritionist, and one of the only practitioners in Australia in what is now widely recognised biopsychosocial model for change. Sports and goal setting, weight management, pre-post natal support, addiction, relationship issues, anxiety and depression are some of my specialties. A lack of motivation may also benefit from taking a look at your living, gut, immune regulation, nutritional and lifestyle.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
