Many of the people I work with come feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of how to move forward. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or difficulties in relationships. Others may be living with other complex mental health challenges such as psychosis. They arrive with suffering that resists explanation, looking for a space where it can be put into words and perhaps gain new meaning.

Using psychodynamic and mindfulness approaches, I go as deep as you're willing.
Making sense of chaos, disorder and pain in our lives is deeply rewarding but difficult work, we take time to slow things down and let the subconscious speak and allow the emotions and feelings to be there and communicate their story. This allows an encounter, one which allows moving forward.

Many people I work with feel stuck, disconnected, or burnt out. They might be dealing with trauma, addiction, relationship stress, or a sense of having lost direction. Some don’t know where to begin only that things can’t keep going the way they have. Whether it’s processing pain, finding meaning, or understanding old patterns, therapy offers a place to slow down and make sense of what’s been happening.

I am super passionate about my work as a Counsellor after many years of working in the corporate world left me searching for a more fulfilling and meaningful career. I find that so many of my clients echo this search – in addition to wanting to address their day-to-day life struggles – they are searching for something more. And this is where I love to be, fully attentive, empathising with my clients but most of all working alongside them to explore ways of improving all aspects of their lives, be that work, relationships, childhood attachment wounds or trauma.

I offer psychotherapy from a relational, psychodynamic perspective.
People often come to therapy feeling stuck and overwhelmed, repeating patterns in their lives that they do not fully understand, or during periods of difficulty, change or uncertainty. Psychotherapy can offer a safe and caring space to reflect and explore emotions, build a freer and more authentic sense of self, and improve relationships.

As an overachiever you find yourself stressed and overwhelmed. You know it's important to practice self-care but increasingly you have found your mental health slipping. You're on the proverbial hamster wheel, burned out, feeling you've lost the capacity to meet the demands of competing roles at home and in the workplace. I am passionate about working with people in demanding work roles, be they professionals, entrepreneurs, or first responders. I also find deep value in working with clients who have identified the impact of the emotional trauma of their childhood in their current relationships and personal endeavours.

My ideal client is someone who might feel like they’ve tried to cope on their own for a long time and are now ready to take a step toward change — even if they’re not sure what that change looks like yet. They want to feel more in control, improve their wellbeing, and build stronger connections with themselves and others. Deep down, their goal is to move beyond just “getting by” and toward truly thriving in their daily life.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
