I treat a wide range of clinical and non-clinical mental health issues, but my special area of interest is anxiety-related conditions, such as generalised anxiety, chronic worry, health anxiety, stress, OCD, social anxiety.
As your clinical psychologist, I want to understand your situation, so I start by listening to you with a curious, open mind and without judgement. I help you explore your feelings and behaviours through reflection, to uncover the beliefs that sit behind them. From this foundation of understanding, we work collaboratively to find practical strategies to manage your thoughts, behaviours and feelings. So whether you need long-term support or an occasional visit, you can move forward with more ease, confidence and optimism.

I support people with Depression, Anxiety disorders, PTSD, ADHD, Autism, relationship issues and work stress.
I believe that trust is the highest form of human motivation and tricky situations challenge it in ourselves. We can have strengths that are as salient and unique as the barriers we face. My clients can have a good insight into themselves or their situation. They may have qualities that set them up for life or have achievements and yet experience significant setbacks that impact their mental health. I work with young people and adults from the diaspora, immigrants or of a multi-racial background navigating change in a personal or professional context. I also work with girls & women across the life-span.

You are not alone in these struggles and you can achieve a life that isn't ruled by feelings of sadness, self doubt, anxiety, disconnect and distress.
You might be starting to feel like something is off, or you're not able to be your true self. Like life is becoming too complex or overwhelming to cope with. You might notice changes in your relationships with loved ones, co-workers, or friends, accompanied with feeling less motivated, connected, or present than you once were. You may have tried turning to the things that once brought you joy, but found limited success and are left feeling burnt out and stuck. You might be able to picture what a balanced life looks like, but struggle with creating real change.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
