There are so many unique challenges that Autistic (or ADHD) adults face. Maybe you have been (newly) diagnosed with Autism or ADHD and you want to process your diagnosis in a neurodiversity-affirming way. You might be questioning if you are neurodivergent. Or you are looking for a translator to help you communicate across different neurotypes (NT/ND). Perhaps you are still stuck in a burn-out cycle and need help to restructure life to help with this. Or it might be exploring strategies relating to anxiety, depression, trauma, work, relationships or other things that are presenting as obstacles in your life.

Are you struggling with PTSD, complex PTSD, or any addiction? Is your current therapy just not working even though you tried your hardest? Recent brain research tells us that talk therapy doesn't give us the expected outcomes we once thought. We know that traumatic incidents can affect us years later. Our brain stores past traumas in a particular way that tries to keep us safe from disturbing memories; we know that the trauma resurfaces elsewhere. It comes out in flashbacks, heightened nervous system responses or self-soothing behaviours, which result in addictions. If you feel like you are going around in circles, help is at hand.

Hello! I am Jordi, the director of Jigsaw Psychology & Assessment. I would describe myself as highly empathetic, easy to talk to, but as someone who can also be direct when needed. I have a keen interest in helping people understand and work through the true causes of anxiety; understanding and processing trauma; and also working with neurodivergent people. While I am well trained in CBT, and frequently utilise it, I am also interested in what is underlying presenting concerns, and how to best tackle them. This can look different depending on the client, but it is always something I am keen to explore.

My counselling draws on my belief that each client's treatment needs to be individualized to his or her unique history and life story, culture, values, strengths and needs. I believe in creating a safe, supportive and non - judgmental environment in which the client will be treated with respect and confidentiality. It is here that the client is supported in finding their value, healing and strength in resolving their struggles and pain. My sincere wish is for my clients to leave the counselling process changed and equipped with new skills to approach their future with confidence and resilience.

I am flexible and able to work with both males and females. Age does not preclude me from seeing someone. I am accepting of anyone who is looking for someone to listen to and see them. Together we will discover and give them their voice. I worked in Samaritans and Lifeline for 20 years. I work with various addictions and traumas. I counsel the addict, or the family, and friends of the addict. Working with discovering purpose, trust and sobriety, I am able to hold the person in a safe space while dealing with trauma by using different counselling modalities suited to them.

As our world rapidly changes around us more people are reaching a crossroads and are looking for that "something more". This may be within yourself, within your relationships, out in the world and even beyond, to the spiritual. You may be unsure of just what that something is and you need support to uncover, resolve or heal it. Sometimes our life journey leaves us with stress, pain, trauma, struggle with identity and this can lead us to unhealthy coping mechanisms such as anxiety, depression, addiction and disconnection. I am a member of GANZ and PACFA (clinical member)

Many of us feel like we are not good enough, overwhelmed by love, or afraid to be truly seen. We may long to connect with our partners but fear rejection, feel intense anger, or find ourselves constantly pleasing others to feel worthy. These struggles can leave us feeling anxious, disconnected, or stuck. But these feelings aren’t who we are — they’re parts of us trying to protect us from pain or danger, shaped by our past. These parts of us are trying to keep us safe, even if their methods feel overwhelming. I can provide opportunities to gently explore, connect to and understand these parts and their underlaying pain.

I am a trauma informed Integrative Psychotherapist and EMDR therapist. I seek to create a deepening awareness of self and enhance connection with others. I work primarily in the areas of complex trauma and dissociation supporting individuals and their loved ones. Exploration of the human condition has always intrigued me. I am curious as to the driving force behind why we do what we do and what determines our path in life. In understanding our life’s journey and what shapes it, we can begin to move towards a more content existence - with a balanced relationship with the world and the connections it brings.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
