You are not what happened to you - you are what you choose to become. I support adults and children to heal and grow through life's challenges. I believe that you have the strength not just to survive, but to truly thrive. Sometimes we may find ourselves struggling with who we are and why we do what we do. We may have behaviours we would like to change or relationships we would like to enrich. Sharing is a big step towards taking care of one's emotional health. I am here to walk the journey with you.

Thanks for finding some time to stop by even though life isn't going quite as you'd hoped right now. So, let’s cut to the chase. I believe in providing counselling that doesn't feel clinical so, we’re going to collaborate in the beautiful outdoors - nurturing with nature. If it's you I'm supporting, I invite you to come walk and talk or sit with me over a cuppa in a peaceful park. If it's a child, we'll use play, sensory materials and movement throughout the session. It's amazing how many therapeutic conversations can come from noticing the clouds, feeling the breeze, or climbing on play equipment.

Through a collaborative relationship with you, the parent or carer, we uncover the root of the problem and discover practical tools for meeting the challenges of parenting.
Often children don’t have words to describe their experiences and feelings and instead reveal them through behaviours which can be misunderstood. They may get into trouble, be labelled, or disconnect. I work with children and families just like this. As a carer, reaching out for support can be the hardest step. I work closely with you and your child through Play Therapy which is relationship based therapy for children aged 3-12 years. Play is a child’s natural way of communicating and Play Therapy creates the environment where the therapist enters into a child’s world and understands the experience from their perspective.

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
