I use evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioral, trauma-informed, and family therapy.
My ideal client may feel overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally stuck. They may be navigating trauma, family conflict, life transitions, or cultural pressures. Some struggle with stress, low mood, or relationship challenges that impact daily life. They are seeking a safe, supportive space where they can feel heard and understood. Their goal is to gain clarity, build emotional resilience, strengthen relationships, and feel more confident and in control. They want practical strategies and lasting change, not just temporary relief

I integrate Art and Sandtray therapy with other modalities, including CBT, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy to help you achieve your goals and find solutions which are right for you.
Hi. I’m Colleen Nicholas. I’m an Art Therapist, Sandtray Therapist, Interactive Drawing Therapist and Counsellor. I offer expressive therapies in addition to talk therapy, because sometimes words are not enough. It can be difficult to find words to express what we are thinking, feeling or experiencing. Sometimes we are not aware of the “real issue” that’s causing our distress.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by juggling all the demands of your busy life and you're constantly checking if you're enough to meet your own high standards or the expectations of others, then you're in the right place. No doubt you're starting to feel exhausted by the stress and anxiety that is building up inside you and you may have even adopted some unhelpful habits to help you cope.

I use gentle, trauma-informed, and nervous-system based approaches, along with CBT and ACT.
I’m a registered psychologist in Bondi Junction and Summer Hill, offering a calm, nurturing space for women who are tired of being strong. I support high-functioning women who feel burnt out from holding everything together — mothers who never stop giving, career women with heavy workloads, and many trying to do both while feeling exhausted inside. You look capable on the outside, but inside you feel anxious, overwhelmed and running on empty. If that’s you, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to keep coping quietly.

I primarily use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in my practice.
You may be feeling depressed, anxious, stressed or angry. Perhaps you were exposed to trauma. You may have experienced work-related issues where you were bullied or undervalued. There may be issues in your personal life with relationships or your health. You may have a disability, leaving you feeling stigmatised and isolated. Alternatively, you may be experiencing forensic/criminal matters and you need a report for court, or you are required to engage in counselling. I have 20 years of experience helping people address a range of concerns.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Therapists
How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?
Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
