I have experience working with a broad range of concerns from everyday stressors to mood disturbance, anxiety, grief, substance concerns, neurodivergence, trauma, personality vulnerabilities and other complex mental health disorders. I value fostering a collaborative supportive atmosphere where curiosity and safety can develop in order to understand and mobilise present strengths and values in meeting life. I have an interest in how our early experience and relationships inform who we are, and how we relate to others now.

I most often work with clients from a psychodynamic perspective, which is a type of therapy that places central importance on therapy being a place to speak freely, feel genuinely heard, and explore the deeper roots of a problem, rather than rushing into strategies or quick fixes.
Many of the people I work with are dealing with the impacts of childhood experiences - things like sexual abuse, emotional neglect, or simply not getting the kind of support they needed early on. These early dynamics can leave a lasting mark, even if life looks fine from the outside. But therapy doesn’t need to start with a clear story. Some people come in just knowing something isn’t quite right. My approach tends to suit people who’ve found short-term strategies helpful but limited, or who’ve had trouble feeling connected in past therapies. We go at your pace, and take the time needed to get to the heart of things.

I primarily work within a psychodynamic model, with the aim of coming to an understanding of some of the more complex aspects to emotional distress.
I combine a philosophical approach with evidence-based practice when supporting people to better understand what drives their complex difficulties.

If you are finding life challenging - let's be honest, who doesn't sometimes - you may find therapy helpful. I would like you to know that you are not "the problem" and you do not need "fixing". But you do deserve to be heard and feel happier in your life. In a safe space, I will listen to anything you wish to share with empathy, kindness and care. Self-managed NDIS clients welcome.

My commitment is to work alongside you to create a safe, non-judgmental space to help faciliate, unfold and navigate our conscious and unconscious behavious and patterns. I am here to be present with you, and to recognise that healing and transformation is not measured by external ideas of 'fixing'. Therapy is a progressive process. It's individual and meaningful. Your outcomes are supported by your willingness to stay with what your experiencing, to deepen with compassion and to integrate your mind, emotions and body into a sense of being whole so that you can have a deeper relationship with yourself.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
