I work with adults and have experience in inpatient settings, addiction, depression , psychosis, anxiety disorders, complex PTSD and borderline personality disorder.
My ideal client is interested in developing self-awareness and learning skills to better manage difficult thoughts and feelings. They are looking for a therapist who they can build a working relationship with, based on genuine respect, support, and compassion, and who draws from the most recent research about what is effective in treatment. They want therapy to be tailored to their unique life experiences and personal strengths and weaknesses. My ideal client is someone who wants therapy to be a collaborative process, where the therapist and client work together to help the client reach their goals.

I have worked with individuals and couples for over thirty years, helping them negotiate the struggles of life in this time of quick change, uncertainty and significant social pressure. Relationships are the first victims when people become anxious or challenged in their lives. Yet I believe relationships are the core to good mental health and personal development. These issues are relevant to people of all ages, and not specific to gender, race or religion. The presenting symptom could be grief, anxiety, depression , arguments, irritability or any form of dysfunctional behaviour - the underlying issue has to be addressed.

My goal in therapy is to create a safe, confidential space where you are able to talk openly about your life, without feeling judged. As your therapist, I will give you the time and care to really understand where you are coming from and give you constructive feedback that empowers you to set realistic goals, make appropriate changes and have strong, genuine relationships. In three words I am kind, honest, attuned.

I have worked both in inpatient facilities and in private practice with clients experiencing issues such as addiction, depression , anxiety, developmental and complex trauma, PTSD, grief, relationship problems and identity confusion.
My greatest satisfaction is working with clients to help them transcend the issues and experiences that hold them back from having the lives they want. Embarking on psychotherapy should be one of the most meaningful experiences a person can have. Accompanying another human being on that path is the most deeply rewarding aspect of my work.

Many clients I work with present with symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression . Some have more complex presentations with multiple diagnoses and chronic health conditions. Most of my clients have experienced some traumas, whether it is a single significant trauma or small repeated traumas such as abuse, neglect, exposure to domestic violence, and disrupted attachment. This inspired my interest in the modalities I use as they are trauma informed interventions. Together we identify and address significant past experiences as well as learn to acknowledge and meet own needs for love, connectedness and a sense of worthiness.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
