I utilise Schema Therapy, with elements from a range of other therapy models (eg ACT, IPT, DBT, CBT) where needed, particularly when assisting people to develop new skills.
In-person appointments are held in Dulwich Hill, in Sydney's Inner West. For online sessions, we will use Microsoft Teams. It is understandable to feel ambivalent about starting therapy (or starting over, with a new therapist). Many people aren't sure if they will 'click' with a therapist or get the results from therapy they are looking for.

I work best with people who genuinely want to move toward greater peace, clarity, and connection. You might come to therapy because: You carry anxiety or depression that doesn’t feel resolved despite your best efforts You’ve experienced trauma, grief, or loss, and the past still shows up in your thoughts, moods, or relationships You find yourself repeating negative patterns—old schemas—that keep you frustrated, stuck, or in conflict Parts of you feel fragmented or in conflict. You’re in a relationship that’s struggling—communication is poor, trust is strained, or you feel disconnected

You might look like you’re coping on the outside—but inside, it feels different. Part of you pushes to stay in control, fix things, and keep it all together… while another part feels overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted. You may notice the same patterns repeating—overthinking, emotional reactions, or relationship tension—and no matter how hard you try, they don’t shift. There may also be older experiences or unresolved pain shaping how you feel and respond. What you’re looking for is a sense of calm, clarity, and understanding—along with support to make sense of what’s happening inside and feel more grounded and at ease.

Holding it together on the outside while feeling unsettled underneath may be hard to put into words. Perhaps you’ve carried this quiet sense for as long as you can remember. The way others perceive you may feel very different from how you experience yourself, leaving you unsure how to make sense of what’s happening within. You may find yourself feeling lonely or disconnected, even when others are around. Over time, this can show up as anxiety or emotional exhaustion, difficulty relaxing, being constantly on alert, struggling in relationships, or feeling stuck.

Telehealth across NSW, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania.
I'm Micaela, a registered psychologist since 2012 and the founder of Inner West Mental Health & North Side Mental Health. Trauma is the centre of my work. Single events, and the complex, layered kind that builds over years and quietly shapes how safe the world feels. I work with adults and teens, and I bring that trauma-informed depth to everything else I see: ADHD, autism, anxiety, and the many women navigating a late diagnosis, perimenopause, or the season of life where everyone else's needs come first.

Feel like a badass while you achieve insight, acceptance and freedom from what’s holding you back
“I’d love to help you develop a supportive, kind and caring relationship with yourself, and secure and fulfilling relationships with others. Working with you to understand why you respond to the world like you do, what really matters to you, and supporting behaviour that back up your ambitions is my jam. We all face challenges in how we relate to ourselves and the world. I believe developing a sense of psychological safety and flexibility, and nurturing emotional intelligence and agility are key to recovering, striving and thriving in all parts of your life”

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
