I work with people who feel deeply, those who sense and process the world in vivid, sometimes overwhelming ways. Many of my clients are realising they might be neurodivergent, or have always felt a little different. You may be facing anxiety, low mood, or feeling disconnected during life transitions. Together, we create space to unmask, slow down, and reconnect with who you are beneath the layers of coping and self-doubt.

Therapy is collaborative and tailored, drawing on Cognitive Behavioural, Acceptance and Commitment, Narrative, Gestalt, Ecopsychotherapy, and coaching approaches to support you where you are and change at your pace.
Grief, life transitions, or chronic disorganisation can feel heavy and isolating. You might be mourning a death, facing sudden loss, pet loss, separation, illness, ageing, or anticipatory and complicated grief. Perhaps you're stuck in clutter, hoarding, or overwhelmed by chaos at home. Emotions like guilt, anger, numbness, longing, shame, or confusion can be exhausting. Though no one can carry this for you, you don’t have to carry it without someone beside you as you seek relief, understanding, direction, and space for what matters. At Changes in Between, you can honour your loss, rebuild your life, and find your place.

You may be feeling overwhelmed by the weight of old wounds, stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, or unsure how to manage intense emotions, loss, relationships, or parts of yourself that seem in conflict. You may be navigating recovery, life's transitions, questioning your identity, living with ADHD, or trying to make sense of complex trauma. More than anything, you want to feel more connected—to yourself, to others, and to a life that feels meaningful and grounded.

Hi, I'm Alex. I am a counsellor and psychotherapist who has seen and helped people who feel like they are often “walking on eggshells”, worrying about how others think of them, and not knowing how to "fill their own cup". This shows up as challenges in navigating relationships, feeling overwhelmed, and not feeling quite themself or like they can be themself with others. I help people develop better coping strategies, change the way they approach relationships, and shift how they feel about themselves for the better.

I believe that no issue is minor. Whatever someone is going through, it’s valid and deserves support. My ideal client is anyone who needs that space to heal or grow through therapy. Whether they’re facing trauma, family conflict, identity struggles, or simply feeling lost or overwhelmed, I’m here to walk alongside them. They might not always know exactly what they need, but they’re open to exploring, feeling, and slowly rebuilding. What they want is to feel understood, to make sense of their experiences, and to move forward with more clarity and self-compassion.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behaviour, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
