Have you tried therapy before and found that some things still won't shift? I bring a relational and embodied approach to working with complex trauma, dissociation, and longstanding patterns held in the body. I use EMDR and somatic (sensorimotor) approaches, alongside a relational, weight-inclusive approach to eating and body image concerns.

I am a Clinical Psychologist Registrar and I offer individual and group therapy as well as psychological assessments in Coffs Harbour and via telehealth. I became a psychologist to give people the support I wanted when I was younger. As someone who was born in rural Australia, I am passionate about providing support to those who don't always have access to it. For me, therapy isn't about having all the answers. It's about creating a space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to find your own path forward.

Welcome to You are Here Therapy. Some people call it trauma. Others call it a difficult experience or a painful chapter they can't seem to move past. Whatever you call it, its effects can linger, shaping how you see yourself, relate to others, and navigate life. Sometimes it's a current stressor that feels overwhelming. Sometimes it's the past showing up in the present. I support adults of all backgrounds and genders, with a particular affinity for working with gay men. Together, we'll make sense of your story, build resilience, and create meaningful change. Your past may shape your story, but it doesn't have to write your future.

People come to sessions when something feels off: overwhelm, anxiety, behaviour that doesn't make sense, or a sense of being stuck. I work with children, young people, and adults. With young people, I meet them through what already matters to them, play, interests, conversation, so they can express themselves without pressure. With adults, we slow things down and make sense of what's happening underneath the story. We focus less on "fixing" and more on understanding. From there, change becomes possible, within reach... clients become steadier, more grounded. More in control of what happens next.

I'm a registered psychotherapist and certified somatic sexologist. I work with women who've lost desire, experience painful sex (inc vaginismus), struggle with orgasm, carry shame, are recovering from trauma, or are navigating menopause-related desire changes. I also work with couples navigating mismatched desire, sexual issues, communication breakdowns and rebuilding trust. Many of my clients have tried talk therapy or self-help and found it didn't reach the deeper patterns held in their bodies to facilitate lasting change. I founded The Embodied Practice in Armidale to offer body-oriented, trauma-informed support to fill this gap.

Put simply, I help men who feel stuck, unheard, hopeless or lost. I help men who are looking for a way to feel better, faster. That’s what counselling does. Life throws a lot at us: change, loss, grief, pressure, stress. We often work our whole lives, only to feel it all falling apart. Sometimes that presents itself as anxiety, the black cloud of depression, or coping mechanisms that can lead to addiction. We try to find ways to reduce the pain; but it just gets worse. It can feel hopeless. But there is hope; counselling can make you feel better, within weeks or even sometimes days - not years.

FAQ - About Neurodivergent Therapy
What does neurodivergent mean?
Neurodivergent is a broad term used to describe people whose brains process, learn, or respond to information in ways that differ from what is considered “typical.” Neurodivergence can include autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, Tourette syndrome, and other forms of neurological difference. The term comes from the idea of neurodiversity, which recognizes that differences in brain function are a natural part of human variation. Rather than viewing neurodivergence only through the lens of neurological disorders, this perspective acknowledges that neurodivergent people may experience both strengths and challenges. For example, a person may be very creative and intelligent, while also needing support with sensory sensitivity or learning differences.

What issues do neurodivergent people commonly bring to therapy?
Neurodivergent people often seek therapy for many of the same reasons as anyone else, including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship concerns, or major life transitions. They may also want support with challenges specifically related to neurodivergence; for example, therapy may help with executive functioning, social communication, sensory sensitivity, school/learning stress, or the experience of feeling misunderstood in society. Therapists can also help individuals and families diagnose conditions, as well as distinguish regular challenges associated with childhood and/or adolescence from more enduring conditions. When needed, a therapist may also provide referrals to additional specialists, such as occupational therapists or psychiatrists who can prescribe psychiatric medication.

What therapeutic approaches work well for neurodivergent clients?
Therapy for neurodivergent clients is often most helpful when it is flexible and affirming. Rather than expecting every client to fit one standard model of therapy, neurodivergent-affirming therapists may adapt sessions to each person’s needs and therapy goals. Often, this includes visual aids, movement breaks, or other therapy supports. Common structured therapeutic approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can be useful for some neurodivergent clients, but the approach may need to be modified to avoid feeling overly rigid or focused on changing traits that are part of a person’s natural neurodivergence. Other approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based approaches, may also be helpful depending on the client’s needs.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of neurodivergent therapists?
Psychology Today’s directory of neurodivergent therapists includes professionals who self-identify as neurodivergent, as well as therapists who describe their work as neurodivergent-affirming or who specialise in areas such as ADHD, autism, learning differences, or sensory processing concerns. When reviewing a therapist’s profile, look at their bio, listed specialties, treatment approach, and experience working with neurodivergent clients. You may also want to consider whether they offer supports that matter to you, such as online therapy, accessible office space, or familiarity with specific concerns like anxiety, depression, or trauma.
