In the same way that you see a GP for physical illness, a physio for muscular problems, a psychologist can help with mental, emotional and situational problems. You have a safe place to talk about things. You are not alone, and what you face is often faced by others. When you don’t know what else to do, we can help you find safety, and ease the pain - of anxiety, depression, relationships, grief, and career. We can also get to the root cause, to end spiralling, to end the back and forth. We can meet face to face in Norwest or by Zoom. Access to medicare benefits for mental health plans are available.

Clients often seek the assistance of therapists to address developmental and growth-related challenges, including adapting to new environments/changes, navigating marital and interpersonal relationships, managing professional pressures, improving family dynamics, and enhancing personal well-being. Therapists work to help clients clarify their current situations, understand the underlying factors affecting them, and identify their goals and actions for improvement. In addition to offering affirmation, encouragement, and support, therapists aim to help clients solve their issues and to foster their overall maturity and development.

You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin therapy, whether you’re seeking support for yourself or for your child. Many people and parents come in unsure of what the exact goal should be, they just know things could be better. If you’re open to exploring what change might look like and willing to try small steps between sessions, we can make real progress together. I value honesty and appreciate when clients or parents feel comfortable sharing what’s helping and what still feels stuck. Therapy works best when it feels like a genuine team effort.

Families and adults come to me for clarity. Often a child is struggling at school, a teenager has hit a wall, or an adult has spent years sensing something was missed. Most of my work is assessment: autism, ADHD, FASD, cognitive, educational, memory, and broader neuropsychological assessment, for every age. I use gold-standard instruments, then take time to explain what the results mean and what to do next. I also work with vulnerable children and families in child protection and out-of-home care, and I see clients for trauma-informed therapy alongside assessment.

I’m Tyla, a psychologist with lived experience and a passion for helping people understand the way their unique brain works. I focus on neurodiversity-affirming assessments and support for children, teens, and adults, both in person and online. I have a special interest in assessing the more internalized presentations of Adhd and autism. My approach is strengths-based, collaborative, and respectful of each individual’s lived experience, including the ways we mask, cope, and thrive in a world that often wasn’t designed for neurodivergent minds.

Testing and Evaluation Therapists
What is a psychological evaluation?
A psychological evaluation is a test or assessment most commonly administered by a trained psychologist that is intended to be used in the diagnosis of specific psychological conditions, such as ADHD, mood disorders, personality disorders, dementia or Alzheimer's, and learning disabilities. Psychological evaluations can help inform future treatment decisions and help direct clients to professionals and resources that may be most helpful, such as potential therapy options or additional school supports.

Can psychological evaluations be done on individuals of any age group?
Psychological evaluations are conducted on individuals of all ages and can be beneficial to individuals across the lifespan. However, specific types of evaluations may be most frequently conducted on individuals of certain age groups. For instance, ADHD or learning disability testing is often conducted in children ages 4-12--the period of time when ADHD symptoms most commonly emerge. In contrast, cognitive functioning assessments, such as those conducted to diagnose dementia, are most commonly conducted in elderly individuals. Clients should ensure that the psychologist they are seeing has specific expertise in conducting evaluations in their age group to ensure they receive a correct diagnosis.

How long does a psychological evaluation take?
Psychological evaluations vary in length depending on the test being administered and the goals of the evaluation; however, most evaluations are 2-4 hours in length. Some evaluations may take as long as 8 hours but can often be spread across multiple days. In some cases, clients will also attend an intake session or interview, which can help the psychologist assess client functioning outside of the testing environment.

How should I prepare for a psychological test and evaluation?
Individuals do not need to prepare for psychological tests or evaluations in most cases, as they are intended to measure a client's baseline psychological status without test-specific preparation. However, clients may want to brainstorm a list of questions for their psychologist about any tests they are receiving prior to the assessment, including what potential outcomes may mean for what next steps the client should take.
