I often use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in my practice, and most recently have added hypnosis as an addition.
I see many clients who feel "stuck" and may need guidance in being able to move forward. I work with clients in exploring what they want to stand for in life, and how to take steps in moving towards their values.

My work includes evidence-based approaches such as DBT, CBT and Schema Therapy, supporting parents and professionals with practical strategies, reflective practice and sustainable change.
You may be feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or like you’re constantly holding it together for everyone else. Many people I work with feel stuck in the same relationship patterns, disconnected from those they love, or weighed down by past experiences or trauma. I’m Bethanie, a social worker based in Camden, South West Sydney. I offer a warm, supportive space where you don’t have to explain or minimise how hard things feel. Together, we slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and work toward feeling calmer, more connected and more like yourself again.

My holistic and trauma-informed approaches to psychological therapy are reflective of my ten years of experience as a psychologist – integrating somatic-based practices, nervous system regulation, inner child and self-compassion work, attachment theory, shadow work, mindfulness and meditation, CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic perspectives.
My passion is to offer a safe and reflective space for adult women between the ages of 25-45 who are seeking support for anxiety, low mood, self-esteem, stress and emotional overwhelm, relationships or attachment difficulties, or complex trauma. I believe transformation happens through understanding your inner world and the impacts of your life experiences with gentleness and curiosity. Whether you are navigating a difficult season or exploring deeper patterns that no longer serve you, my aim is to offer a space where you find clarity and a sense of self-trust that feels more grounded and empowered.

I work through a client-focused approach, adapting different evidence-based techniques to fit the needs of each unique client. I use a variety of approaches, such as Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and mindfulness-based therapies, to support clients from different angles. My intention with each client is to help them identify the "what," "why," and "how" to allow for lasting change. This means focusing on what the primary concern is, why it may have developed, and how to create long-lasting change and well-being.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Therapists
How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?
Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
