Life can feel overwhelming when stress, uncertainty, or relationship challenges pile up. You might be feeling stuck, stretched thin, or close to burnout. A life shift has caught you off guard. You might be carrying grief, facing a big decision, or maybe you can't quite put your finger on it, but you know something needs to shift. You don't need to be in crisis to reach out. Counselling is for the messy middle and the quiet questioning, or perhaps simply to understand yourself more deeply. Together, we'll find ways to understand your patterns, shift what's not working, and build tools you can actually use in your day-to-day life.

Are you feeling overly anxious, having low or changeable moods? Or perhaps you are finding it hard to focus and are feeling lonely or isolated? Are you using substances more than you would like to? Are you experiencing low self esteem and a sense of shame? Do you find it hard to know what you need? Are you being impacted by past experiences and relationships more than you would like to be? Would you like to improve your current relationship with yourself and others? Would you prefer to be less anxious and/or depressed and in turn feel more motivated to do the things that are important to you?

Life can be perplexing at times. Psychotherapy can help. It firstly involves meeting together to understand your current experience and to foster a relationship of safety. We can then work respectfully to help you find fresh and empowering responses to the patterns and relationships that are causing stress and distress. I draw on evidence-based approaches - developmental psychology (ANZAP), mindfulness training (MBSR and MiCBT) and Internal Family Systems Therapy. These approaches harness present moment awareness and exploration to build a more compassionate and empowering relationship with yourself.

I am an experienced clinical psychologist, with a particular interest in working with clients who have difficulties regulating their emotions (anxiety, mood, shame, anger), have interpersonal or relationship difficulties, or personality issues. I find that these people are often misunderstood by others, which leads to them misunderstanding themselves and the origin of their difficulties.

I work best with individuals navigating trauma, mood or relationship difficulties, or long-standing patterns that feel hard to change. Some are dealing with anxiety, trauma or depression; others are working through complex life experiences such as past trauma, relationship issues, personality issues or loss. Often, they’ve spent years coping but feel ready to understand themselves more deeply and shift what’s no longer serving them. They’re seeking a therapy space that offers warmth, depth, and clarity, where insight leads to meaningful and lasting change.

As a clinical psychologist, I aim to create an authentic and compassionate therapeutic relationship as the foundation of the work. I integrate various evidence-based psychotherapy techniques and tailor my approach to meet each individual’s unique context, disposition and needs. I believe that true empowerment lies in developing a deeper understanding of one’s thoughts, emotions, body, and behaviours, while cultivating the skills to navigate these elements intentionally.

You might look like you’re coping on the outside—but inside, it feels different. Part of you pushes to stay in control, fix things, and keep it all together… while another part feels overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted. You may notice the same patterns repeating—overthinking, emotional reactions, or relationship tension—and no matter how hard you try, they don’t shift. There may also be older experiences or unresolved pain shaping how you feel and respond. What you’re looking for is a sense of calm, clarity, and understanding—along with support to make sense of what’s happening inside and feel more grounded and at ease.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
