Being in an intimate relationship with another person is both the hardest and most rewarding experience that we can have.
To the fractured places in relationships (including the relationnship we have with ourself) I bring safety, warmth and humour. Behind this there is a breadth of knowledge and experience gained in collaboratively working with so many individuals and couples. I have trained in many different therapeutic modalities in over 25 years of working with people.

Being the co-creator of an authentic, safe relationship in therapy helps clients to maintain authentic, safe, and life affirming relationships outside of therapy.
I have been working in the field of mental health for over 10 years. I’ve practised in suicide prevention, trauma, and workplace coaching. I am now retired. I’ve seen a lot, but I enjoy what I do, so I still work 1 ½ days a week. (I guess that makes me semi-retired.) I’m highly empathic, sensitive to relationship dynamics, and I specialise in psychotherapy.

Life can sometimes feel confusing and overwhelming, leaving us unsure of where to go next or what to do. In those moments, the sense of being stuck can be unsettling, making us question everything. Our thoughts, feelings, and actions may feel unclear. Yet, there's a part of us that yearns to grow—a curious part that seeks to learn and evolve through these experiences. This part wants to develop emotional resilience, embrace uncertainty, and foster greater self-awareness. Ultimately, it's the part that strives to become the most authentic and reliable version of ourselves.

I work with people who feel stuck - whether depressed; anxious; as a result of trauma; caught in a cycle of repetitive destructive behaviours like alcohol and drug use, gambling or sex addiction; dysfunctional relationships; or lacking direction, meaning and purpose.
I draw on a range of evidence-based therapies as appropriate for each client. These methods are accompanied by empathy for the human condition and are informed by insights gained as a partner, father, son, sibling, friend, colleague and community member. I bring my authentic self into the therapeutic relationship to walk beside those who come to see me.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
