I offer therapy sessions Wednesday to Friday in person at Penshurst, Sydney as well as online.
Welcome. My heartfelt intention is to hold a safe and supportive space for women to feel heard, healed and whole. Using mindbody principles of Gestalt Therapy and Polyvagal theory, I offer a personalised, relational and embodied approach to supporting women who may be experiencing a disconnect from themselves, others or their environment - whether it be through emotional dysregulation, physical burnout, or mental overwhelm. By healing past emotional wounding and undoing old beliefs that impede and impact life in the present, our work together addresses the root causes for lasting change and a sense of coming home to oneself.

Hi I’m Mathew, Soul Centered Counsellor. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges or are having trouble coping, please know you are not alone. And although you may feel like it, there is nothing wrong with you. We can often feel like we are at the mercy of things that happen in our life but the truth is that we have far more power to be happy than most people realize. I’m here to help you reconnect with your power and regain a sense of control over your life. “The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” (Eckhart Tolle)

Weekdays; online/ in-person; trained in different models of therapy (CBT, Psychodynamic, Humanistic) adapted to meet your specific needs.
Whatever you’re experiencing is a normal response to difficult circumstances — and it can be worked through in psychotherapy. Perhaps you have been trying to make sense of things, but the same pattern keeps appearing: relationships that keep breaking down, a sense of lacking direction in life, or maybe despite everything going well on paper, things still feel off. I’m an experienced Psychotherapist working with people who want to understand what’s driving their difficulties at the root. I believe that suffering can be transformed into a source of vitality. For more information, you can visit my website.

Understanding how you experience the world is central to my work as a therapist. I am interested how feelings and thoughts can manifest in our bodies. Gentle exploration of these somatic responses can assist in deeper understanding of our emotional world. Working together, I would support you toward your self-acceptance of challenging thoughts and feelings. Alongside my private practice, I work with a national not-for-profit supporting parents experiencing antenatal and postnatal anxiety, depression and adjustment to parenthood - as a spokesperson, managing clinical intake and clinical writing.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
