I am a Clinical Psychologist and have nearly 20 years experience in treating mental health conditions in adolescents, adults and older adults. I am trained in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). In my journey as a therapist, I found CBT was not reaching the heart of the issue for my clients and was a surface level treatment. I searched for more and found ISTDP to have a more complete understanding of the human person and how to treat psychological problems. However, my journey has not stopped there. As I now use Affective State Therapy (AST), which has been a progression from ISTDP.

I have a particular interest in supporting individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, family and relationship difficulties, and major life transitions, including those affected by domes
I aim to create a warm, safe, and non-judgemental space where you can speak openly about what’s weighing on you — the painful emotions, experiences, and challenges that life can throw our way. One of the most meaningful parts of my work is seeing clients feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported.
A strong therapeutic relationship is central to meaningful change, so my style is friendly, relaxed, and down-to-earth. At the same time, my approach is pragmatic and purposeful — therapy isn’t just about talking, but about making sense of your experiences and finding practical ways to move forward in everyday life.

I enjoy working with adults who are wanting to improve their life in a meaningful way, whether that means overcoming a repeating pattern in relationships, dealing with anger, stopping a particular behaviour, confronting fears and anxieties, or coping with grief.
Before I worked as a clinical psychologist, I was a professional musician. This line of work taught me a lot. I found that the best music is made when one listens carefully, and responds to what is happening in the moment, rather than simply reciting familiar material. I bring the same philosophy to my work as a psychologist. It is incredibly important to first listen, and deeply understand the goals of the individual, which then guide the direction of therapy.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
