You might be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or carrying the weight of past experiences that are difficult to make sense of. This could show up as anxiety, low mood, emotional reactivity, or a sense that something isn't quite right. Perhaps you've been coping for a long time but want more than just getting by. Many people I work with are seeking clarity, relief, and a greater sense of peace. They want to move forward without the past continuing to shape how they feel or function.

I help children, teenagers and adults with anxiety, depression, stress, anger management and emotional regulation.
Hi. I’m Colleen Nicholas. I’m an Art Therapist, Sandtray Therapist, Interactive Drawing Therapist and Counsellor. I offer expressive therapies in addition to talk therapy, because sometimes words are not enough. It can be difficult to find words to express what we are thinking, feeling or experiencing. Sometimes we are not aware of the “real issue” that’s causing our distress.

I work best with individuals who are motivated for change but feel stuck. Often presenting with anxiety, stress, burnout, or life transitions. They come feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Many are high-functioning yet internally overwhelmed, seeking clarity, emotional regulation, and direction. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to start, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I offer a supportive, non-judgmental space to make sense of what you’re experiencing and find a way forward.

Common difficulties include trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, substance use, anger and emotional dysregulation, relationship difficulties, ADHD and grief.
My approach is trauma-informed, evidence-informed and practical. Early sessions focus on what brought you here, what has and has not helped, and what you want to be different — then we develop a plan around your goals. I also provide independent forensic and medico-legal assessments, including Section 14, pre-sentence, risk and cognitive assessment.

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns they don’t fully understand. You might notice the same reactions showing up in relationships, or find yourself replaying moments long after they’ve passed. Often, something feels off, but it’s hard to put into words. I work with adults who are wanting to better understand themselves, particularly in the areas of anxiety, low mood, and relationship difficulties, and who are open to exploring what sits beneath the surface of these experiences.

People often arrive with a cocktail of symptoms, including Depression, Anxiety, Anger issues, substance abuse, etc.
Most therapists aren't specifically trained in trauma, and many who are may rely on just one trauma-specific technique within a general talk therapy framework. I do things differently. Trauma therapy is what I specialize in. I’m trained in multiple trauma-specific methods as well as Neuropsychotherapy, so I can adapt the work to meet your unique nervous system and needs, not the other way around. Take the first step towards healing from Trauma, reducing Anxiety and Depression, and enhancing your quality of life.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
