If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward, you’re not alone. You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, the impact of past or recent trauma, relationship difficulties, or a growing sense that life feels harder than it should. You might be seeking clarity about yourself, your child, or your situation and wanting practical support that actually makes a difference. Many of the people I work with are looking for understanding as much as solutions. They want a safe, calm space where they can make sense of their experiences, feel genuinely heard, and develop skills to cope more effectively.

Counsellor, ACA-L2

My clients are often navigating trauma, addiction, domestic and family violence, or life after involvement with the criminal justice system. Many are LGBTQIA+ and want a counsellor who won't need things explained twice. They usually arrive feeling unheard, judged, or unsure where to start. I work at their pace, combining CBT, motivational interviewing and strengths-based approaches, all delivered by phone or video so support fits around real life, not the other way around.

Psychologist, PhD, PsyBA - Clin. Psych

The main modalities I use are schema therapy, Hakomi-based somatic psychotherapy and Internal Family Systems.
Are you feeling out of touch with your truest self? Do you feel like you've achieved your goals in career or relationships but somehow still struggle with chronic burnout, relationship patterns that repeat, or a lingering sense of unmet spiritual hunger. Often my clients have done a lot of self-improvement, read the books and tried conventional methods, but these haven't touched the core of the issue. I especially work with people with chronic health issues: unexplained fatigue, autoimmune conditions, weight issues or chronic pain.

These are the treatment types I use: primarily psychodynamic therapy and CBT, with elements of schema therapy and systems therapy where helpful.
I work best with individuals navigating trauma, mood or relationship difficulties, or long-standing patterns that feel hard to change. Some are dealing with anxiety, trauma or depression; others are working through complex life experiences such as past trauma, relationship issues, personality issues or loss. Often, they’ve spent years coping but feel ready to understand themselves more deeply and shift what’s no longer serving them. They’re seeking a therapy space that offers warmth, depth, and clarity, where insight leads to meaningful and lasting change.

Something isn't quite right. Maybe you can't stop yourself from worrying, or you're compulsively avoiding places, people, or situations. Perhaps panic arrives suddenly, uncontrollably. Maybe you're feeling down — sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness you can't shake, along with worthlessness or guilt. It could be your relationships that aren't working: partner, friends, family, boss, or colleagues. Perhaps past experiences are haunting you, pulling you out of the present and away from the people in it. If you're also adjusting to a new culture or language, that disorientation can compound everything. Perhaps it's all of the above.

I find that people often come to therapy because they are stuck. They could be struggling with their mood, with their fears, with addiction, with relationship issues, with stress. Whatever the issue, they don’t understand why they are stuck and, despite their best efforts, they don’t know how to become unstuck. Their attempts to use the typical psychological skills and strategies from CBT or ACT don't work, not because of any personal failing, but because they haven't been able to identify the causes of their problem and because there is more to people than just simple thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Schema Therapy
How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?
Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?
Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognising and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
