My name is Samantha, I'm an experienced counsellor and accredited Mental Health Social Worker with the AASW. I have over a decade’s experience working with adults who have experienced complex trauma of various forms including; domestic violence, sexual abuse, intergenerational and interpersonal traumas - helping people address the various ways this can impact a number of aspects of their daily life. The daily resilience it takes to not only endure but move forward in life despite having experienced extreme and confronting situations is a gift that I feel lucky to witness and walk alongside. I look forward to working with you soon.

I work best with individuals navigating trauma, mood or relationship difficulties, or long-standing patterns that feel hard to change. Some are dealing with anxiety, trauma or depression; others are working through complex life experiences such as adoption or loss. Often, they’ve spent years coping but feel ready to understand themselves more deeply and shift what’s no longer serving them. They’re seeking a therapy space that offers warmth, depth, and clarity, where insight leads to meaningful and lasting change.

Something isn’t quite right. It may be that you can’t stop yourself from worrying. Or you are compulsively avoiding things (places, people, certain situations). Perhaps you find yourself flying into a sudden, uncontrollable, panic. It may be that you are feeling down: you can’t shake the sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness in your life. You may be feeling worthless and guilty too. It could be your relationships that aren’t working (partner, friends, family, boss, or colleagues). Perhaps past experiences are haunting you so that you lose your connection to the present and the people in it. Perhaps it's all of the above.

Are you affected by issues like anxiety, depression, addiction, abuse, loss, or relationships? My approach is compassionate and holistic, incorporating Sensorimotor Psyhotherapy, Internal Family Systems and Deep Brain Reorienting, to treat the somatic, emotional and psychological elements of unresolved trauma. Such symptoms may lie deep within the body, often at an unconscious level, and which traditional talking therapies may fail to address. I value our uniqueness as individuals and believe that we each have an innate capacity for healing and growth. I work with adults and offer both short-term and open-ended work.

We can all have times in our lives when things can seem unmanageable, whether it is within our family or close relationships, divorce or bereavement, or our health, our work or in coming to terms with difficult events that have happened either recently or in the past , which still don’t feel resolved. You are not alone, as human beings we all have difficult times. It is a brave decision to try to resolve those issues in the best way you can. A counsellor is not there to judge you, or to give you text book solutions. They are there to help and guide you towards the solution that is right for you.

The therapy journey can help us understand and address distress in our lives through understanding how the past has stayed alive in our current experience. It is no longer about what happened, it is how it lives on in parts of ourselves.. "Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it" (Brene Brown). I offer a safe therapeutic environment for you to navigate and resolve the concerns and difficulties you face with gentle curiosity and mindfulness, and will support you in building self-compassion, understanding and connection, strength, self-esteem and a sense of empowerment.

You might be navigating a life transition, relationship challenge, deep grief, or feeling lost in patterns of anxiety, burnout, dissociation or overwhelm. Perhaps your body is holding what words cannot express—chronic pain, tension, or a sense of disconnect. You long for relief, clarity, and a deeper connection to yourself. My work is for those who seek more than just talk therapy—who want to feel change in their body, not just understand it in their mind. Together, we create space for healing, where old patterns can unravel, and a sense of possibility, agency, and ease can emerge.

I'm Jay (they/them), a transmasculine non-binary counselor with a focus on supporting people in the LGBTIQ+ community, neurodivergent folk, and others who feel like their identity or lifestyle is stigmatised or misunderstood. I work with issues of identity, meaning, and purpose and feelings of stuckness. Maybe your life doesn't feel quite right despite (or maybe especially) it looking good on paper, or old issues are starting to bubble up now. I believe that everyone deserves to have a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space to work through the issues that have brought them into therapy - however long that may take.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Counsellors

How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?

Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioural therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behaviour therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?

There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom which may include antipsychotics, antidepressants, or anti-anxiety drugs.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?

Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
