I work with clients that experience a broad range of challenges, related to mental health, physical disabilities, grief, trauma or addictions. Most of them are at critical points in their life or within themselves when they can feel stuck or overwhelmed and do not know how to proceed to move forward or action change. I particularly specialise in counselling parents who have difficulties adapting to a new life of parenthood.
Becoming a parent is a life changing experience and sometimes we might have difficulties adapting to our new responsibilities and changed life conditions. This is also true when our child has been diagnosed with a disability or illness. Accepting these circumstances can be challenging and lead to heightened anxiety or depression.
I understand how raising a child that simply requires more attention than others can be hard on a family. When my son was diagnosed with a severe permanent hearing impairment when he was just 2 years old, I had feelings of being overwhelmed, of anger, of guilt and feelings of uncertainty. The grief and sense of loss can be intense.
