I enjoy working with clients who are ready for a serious change in their lives. It's okay if you don't have specific or clear goals at first, but it's always helpful to be aware of what it would look like if therapy was going to work for you. Also, I always appreciate when clients feel comfortable enough within sessions to voice what they feel is working for them, where they are still stuck, or unsure if something actually working for them.
It is very important to me that therapy addresses and treats the root causes of the presenting problems, not just tending to the symptoms. My approach to treating problem video gaming possesses a focus of minimising the negative impacts that gaming too much can bring, while maximizing the numerous benefits of play.
It can be very difficult to reach and make the first step to see a psychologist. Always remember, that booking an appointment and showing up is a sign of strength, rather than that of weakness.
