My therapeutic focus is on supporting individuals and couples during the perinatal period and early years of parenting. Presenting issues may include mental health challenges, adjustment to parenting, difficulties bonding with baby, birth trauma, pregnancy concerns, preparation for childbirth, issues arising from their own childhood, intrusive thoughts, low confidence in parenting. I provide parenting focused relationship counselling to support parents manage the impact the transition to parenthood can have on their relationship. I provide attachment focused parenting education and support for both individuals and couples.
I work from a relational and attachment focused lens and utilise a number of therapeutic modalities CBT, ACT, DBT, Mindfulness and Relaxation strategies, Compassion-focused therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Attachment Theory. I am trained in Marte Meo, Circle of Security, Gottman Bringing Baby home and as a Peaceful Parenting Facilitator.
My approach to therapy is warm, genuine and down-to-earth. I work to create a relaxed and non-judgemental atmosphere where clients can explore and understand emotional difficulties, interpersonal experiences (including parenting) and unhelpful patterns in the context of their own attachment history and life experiences.
