I have worked in a range of services including psychiatric hospitals, trauma services, child and family services and private practice. I work with people who are wanting to understand themselves better, in order to feel differently about themselves and the world. I am experienced in supporting people through complex emotional and psychological challenges; helping them discover or recover their sense of self.
I have trained formally as both a psychologist and psychotherapist. My training required me to be in therapy myself. Unfortunately this practice is uncommon in most counselling and psychology training programs in Australia. I believe it is essential that therapists do their own work and always remember what it feels like to be a client.
We all carry patterns and templates inside us that inform how we feel and how we behave. Sometimes these patterns are helpful, sometimes not. Working together to understand deeply held assumptions or automatic responses can bring about significant change and improve relationships, both with ourselves and each other.
