My expertise is processing stuck and unwanted emotion and behaviours, as well as thriving with ADHD. Founded by Gina McClement, Living In Bloom offers counselling, psychotherapy and ADHD therapy and coaching. I work with my clients to build a flourishing, purposeful and rewarding life, grown from a strong and healthy connection with oneself. The nature of life’s journey is to present us with twists and turns, challenges and adversity, but when we unfold and align with our unique and powerful authentic-self, life as we desire begins to flow. “When things change inside us, they begin to change all around us." Like a flower, we bloom in the right environment; in the play therapy room I work with empathy and acceptance to create a safe space for children and families in order for them to work through their issues and “grow”. I recognise the importance of family and offer assistance to parents and carers to work towards a safer, happier and more relaxed home environment in a strength-based way. Child-centred Play Therapy is a gentle, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming way of supporting children in their unique reactions to coping with daily life, big life events or trauma and attachment issues.

Predominantly in appointments, I will utilize ideas from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Bowen Family Systems Theory.
Everyone can live a more fulfilling life, although thoughts and feelings make it easy to get stuck. I believe therapy offers space to take a step back and do our best thinking about 'whats working well?' and 'whats not working well?', when it comes to thoughts, feelings, and relationships. I work with people experiencing a wide range of difficult thoughts, feelings, and situations such as: anxiety, low mood, relationship stress, and low motivation.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
