My family, my own life and my own values coupled with my work experience provides a sound foundation.
I have had a lot of experience with working with people and I very much appreciate the need to have someone listen, and I mean truly listen. Our world is often fast and furious, our lives more often than not quite chaotic, and it can be difficult to cope with the many hurdles that are thrown at us, and to find someone who actually offers their help unconditionally. My role as your Counsellor is to walk by your side, to respect the privilege that it is to share your story with you, and to perhaps work with you to help find the way forward. Sometimes it is just an ear that makes the difference.

I work with adult individuals who may be experiencing concerns related to anxiety, stress, low mood, self-esteem, relationships (family, romantic, friends, work), or adjustment to life changes.
Hello, I'm Margo. I am passionate about working with individuals interested in better understanding themselves and their experiences, in view of improving their sense of wellbeing, capacity to manage difficulties, grow in self-acceptance and authenticity, and to experience more satisfying relationships. My approach is grounded in a foundation of empathy and curiosity. I believe that meaningful change can occur in genuine relatedness with another person, where we can feel safe, understood and supported to explore and grow in our understanding of, and connection to, ourselves.

My particular areas of interest are applying a holistic approach to counselling: Individuals ($100 p/hour, concessions $80 p/hour), Couples separately ($100 p/hour), Couples together ($120 p/hour), Trauma, Domestic and Family Violence, Adolescents, LGBTIQ, Work Place Issues.
Highly skilled at rapport building, Mary Ann guarantees a holistic, non-judgemental, confidential, caring and empathic service. Each client is an individual with unique choices that are respected. Clients are never labelled and the problem is separated from the client. This approach assists both client and therapist to view the problem as external to the client. The client is not the problem and therefore becomes liberated from it, so that the problem can be looked at, unpacked and successfully tackled from the outside. In this way, clients are supported to discover positive solutions, creating their chosen future and wellbeing.

Welcome to a space that has been created to help you feel a sense of safety and stability. Within the walls of Inner Reflections Psychology, my goal is to help you become the best version of yourself, in whatever way aligns best with your values and beliefs. In my years as a practicing psychologist, I have learnt what it means to practice unconditional positive regard, lean into vulnerability and listen to my intuition in times of need. I am passionate about assisting you to learn these skills, but to also have a place where you can be heard, free from bias and judgement and assisted with navigating life’s inherent challenges.

I have experience working with a wide range of people in terms of age, culture, neurodiversity, gender expression, physical abilities, language and presenting issues. A relationship-based approach is at the core of my practice- I've found that only when people feel welcomed and accepted do they feel safe enough to explore important challenges and issues.

If you're looking at this site you're probably trying to find something or someone to help you move on from a difficult patch. We can't always change the world or others but we can always, by looking within, reframe circumstances so they more fully reflect a happier and brighter world. We all crave to live in a world where we are more truly aligned with our heart and its deeper longing. We only find that world when we can honestly say we love ourselves, which in turn enables us to love others. What is it that prevents us loving our self? Lets journey in. this enquiry together.

I love working with individuals and couples who are motivated to understand themselves and each other better, and to change the negative patterns that both cause and result from attachment distress. Together we can make sense of what goes wrong and help you heal and change the negative patterns that get you stuck, whether within yourself or with others. Sometimes this may involve creating enough safety to help you recognise and process past relational or attachment trauma. Sometimes it can involve recognising and exploring the experience of living with neurology that works differently than that of the majority of people.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
