I specialise in providing counselling to family carers of people with a disability, mental illness or who are frail aged. Carers can experience enormous challenges in their lives, including stress, exhaustion and isolation. They can feel that their lives and problems are not well understood and they feel invisible to broader society. I have over 10 years of experience providing counselling to carers and also have my own lived experience of having a child with a disability.
My counselling uses a person-centred and humanistic approach. I will listen with warmth and care to what you say and be respectful of you, your experiences and your views without judgement. My job is to develop a trusting relationship through which you can make sense of your life and its possibilities.
Research evidence shows that effectiveness in counselling very much depends on the quality of the therapeutic relationship - it is important that you feel you can trust and talk to your counsellor.
