Avrille Burrows is a Naarm (Melbourne) based South Asian Mental Health Clinician and Arts Therapist. She has worked for over 12 years with people from various backgrounds who have experienced trauma such as family violence, abuse, and loss. She understands how these can impact our relationships, confidence and the toll it can take on our physical body with symptoms such as headaches, pain, depression, anxiety and stress. As a migrant, woman of colour and mother, Avrille understands the complexities of navigating culture, identity, family dynamics, and raising children as a settler on this land.
Avrille has a strong understanding of intergenerational trauma and parenting and provides a contained space to explore this. She works in a thoughtful, constructive and gentle manner with a trauma-informed, intersectional, and systemic lens. She draws from a variety from theories, and applies a culturally responsive and collaborative approach to her practice
Avrille utilises visual illustrations and creative interventions alongside talk therapy. She finds this allows for better integration, innovative problem solving, deeper insight, increased knowledge of our body, and a stronger sense of self/wellness. Avrille also runs Stitching In Colour, a monthly art based group and works out of Pola Practice, Ascot Vale.
