I have also worked with neurodiverse children and adults, in family violence recovery, in school settings, in high-care dementia residential care, with clients with physical, intellectual and psychosocial disabilities (NDIS participants) and with adults with mild, moderate and complex mental health diagnoses.
I am an experienced creative art therapist and counsellor who loves working with the expressive and transformative power of artmaking. I believe that art therapy is for everyone, regardless of art making background, skill or ability. In my private practice, I use a trauma-informed approach and am inspired by attachment theory and relational processes. I have found that combining these approaches with expressive art therapy creates a safe, gentle and connective way to experience therapy. This approach is suitable for a wide range of clients of all ages and abilities.

I recognise culture, faith, language, and origin and chosen family as strengths in the healing journey.
Counsellors often talk about the client as being the expert of their own life. It is true. There can be times, however, when we get stuck, cannot decide, and find ourselves repeating patterns of thought and behaviour that can lead us to experiences of depression, anxiety, stress, and distress. If we can decipher the codes handed down to us, internally or externally, we may be able to shape things differently for ourselves and future generations. My way of being at Ko Se Counsel is to sit, stand, or walk beside you as you understand, define, and make happen what you seek.

It may help you to know that I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory in a person-centred approach to meet your specific needs in the session.
Reaching out for help from a counsellor can be scary and it is a courageous and kind thing to do for yourself. Knowing which counsellor to choose can be equally hard. Here’s what you need to know about me to help you decide. For the last five years, I’ve worked with and helped both men and women improve their relationship with themselves, improve troublesome relationships with others and feel more connection with their children. I helped them to know who they really are, to uncover their authentic self by discovering what gets in the way of being who they want to be.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
