I have over 47 years clinical experience in child, adolescent, family and couple art psychotherapy. I work with trauma, mood/adjustment disorder, grief, relationship difficulties. Issues are addressed in a way that bypasses talking. The innate healing potential of your creative self is externalised as thoughts and feelings, which may otherwise remain unexpressed, arise. No previous art experience is necessary - marks and scribbles are of equal value. In this process the unconscious is honoured, so your dream life is important. Through imaginative symbolic expression, unconscious material is explored, clarified and finds meaning.
Drawing/art-making is used as an alternative to talking about issues. Metaphor drawing cues are generated from what is spoken. What is carried internally from your life experiences finds external expression, so the imprint of trauma/emotions/issues are slowly reduced over time, as self-healing occurs. You dictate content, while I manage therapeutic process.
Deciding to consider therapy, you have already begun a self-care process. Sessions are available online via Zoom or Skype. The first 4-6 sessions are assessment, you assess me as much as I assess you. Treatment is contracted if you wish to continue therapy. A minimum of 10-12 one hour treatment sessions are recommended as a start.
