I’m Alisoun, a Creative Arts and Somatic Therapist in Cowes, Phillip Island. I have learned through life experience and formal study to use creative expression, embodiment, and inquiry as powerful guides through some of life’s complex and difficult matters. I work with both children and adults, adopting a collaborative approach and offering 'more-than-verbal' methods for communication, understanding, and self-expression. I am registered as a Clinical Counsellor, with a Masters in Therapeutic Arts Practice, and am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (c).
Arts Therapy can help us to explore our experiences, including thoughts and feelings that are difficult to communicate, and can include a range of creative forms (e.g. visual arts, play, movement, music, fiction). I integrate advanced somatic training to strengthen self-awareness and regulation and respond to how experience can be held within our body.
My approach is rooted in trauma-informed care, and understanding trauma at personal, collective, historical, and systemic levels. This foundation underpins my practice and commitment to addressing the effects of systemic oppression. I am drawn to creative expression and somatic awareness as ways to reclaim the agency of our bodies and narratives.
