I offer general counselling with a specialisation in relationship and grief counselling for mainly adult individuals or couples. Partners might feel stuck in repetitive cycles of blame and withdrawal and feel angry, resentful, sad, guilty, shameful, or lonely; or they feel numb. Together we will work towards clarity and new ways of being with each other. - Grief can come in many forms and everyone's grief journey is individual. I offer a confidential, compassionate and non-judgemental space to make sense of your emotions and questions, talk about challenges and explore ways going forward.

Starting therapy can feel daunting, but you don’t need to have everything figured out. With nearly 18 years of experience, I offer a compassionate, evidence-based approach tailored to your needs. Therapy is relational and grounded in psychological expertise. It is collaborative: you’re the expert in your own life, and together we’ll explore meaningful ways forward. I also provide assessments including cognitive, achievement, learning disorders, ADHD, and autism for adults and children aged 6+. If you’re unsure about whether an assessment is needed, I’ll guide you through your options.

I am an experienced trauma-&IFS-informed therapist. I work well with people who are ready to do 'the work'. I briefly bring strategies that can be useful to your everyday life initially, relying on modalities such as mindfulness and polyvagal theory, before moving into deeper work based in Internal Family Systems (IFS), if and when the time is right. I assist/guide you to reveal and heal the parts of you that carry thoughts, feelings and behaviours that no longer serve you. It is not always doom and gloom. We work together light-heartedly to safely reveal your unconscious motivations and inner strength, towards lasting healing.

Hi there, I’m Rachel! I’m so glad you’re here. I understand how isolating and overwhelming it can feel to navigate life after a late-in-life ADHD, Autism, or AuDHD diagnosis. Finding support that truly fits your needs can be a challenge, and it’s frustrating when strategies don’t work or feel impossible to implement. You might find yourself asking, “What’s the point of a diagnosis if nothing changes?”

I work with individuals presenting with a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship problems, work stress, grief, health and lifestyle, and more. I also aim to serve clients with spiritual concerns and aspirations who are seeking deeper meaning in their lives. As I counsel people, I try to let my skills, training, knowledge and experience gently inform the way the therapeutic relationship develops. Research suggests that a warm and accepting counselling relationship contributes more than anything else to success in therapy. However, specific skills to treat specific problems are important too.

I believe that no issue is minor. Whatever someone is going through, it’s valid and deserves support. My ideal client is anyone who needs that space to heal or grow through therapy. Whether they’re facing trauma, family conflict, identity struggles, or simply feeling lost or overwhelmed, I’m here to walk alongside them. They might not always know exactly what they need, but they’re open to exploring, feeling, and slowly rebuilding. What they want is to feel understood, to make sense of their experiences, and to move forward with more clarity and self-compassion.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
