I work with older adolescents (16+), adults and couples on their mental health, emotional and relationship issues. My particular interest is helping people improve their self-esteem, motivation, work stress and relationship issues. I support my clients to overcome life challenges and frame those challenges in terms of schema or negative self-belief barriers which can be overcome. I also enjoy working with couples on changing their relationship patterns and resolving their differences. I am skilled with culturally sensitive issues, coming from a multicultural perspective myself and being experienced working with migrants.

All children want to feel understood, accepted and loved, but sometimes the opposite is experienced in day to day relationships with their parents, siblings, and at school. These feelings can be overwhelmingly frustrating, confusing and stressful for you and your child. You have tried so many ways to help your child and worry about your family's emotional and mental well-being. I can help you and your child gain insight, break through the negative experiences and restore hope. Through our work together, you will feel more supported and your child will improve their self esteem.

I am a Social Worker and a Gestalt Psychotherapist. I have worked in mental health, disability, with the aged and the dying. Throughout my life journey I have come to have a deep appreciation of the human spirit and its capacity for growth and development. I understand that we are all unique in our response to the challenges that we face, and I work towards creating a supportive and safe environment that allows exploration of what is currently occurring in your life and how it is impacting your ability to live as you would like. Through this process, awareness deepens and the possibility and opportunity for change can occur.

At the core of my practice is the belief in people’s ability to change, to grow and find greater satisfaction. At times we all need help to see the obstacles in our way. I work with relationships challenges, anxiety, trauma, a lack of meaning or purpose, depression, self esteem and life changes – with both individuals and couples. My approach to psychotherapy and counselling is humanistic, drawing particularly on existential, psychodynamic and somatic frameworks. At the heart of my work is the relationship between therapist and client, and together we find the best way forward.

Hi, I'm Bronwyn. I am an integrative, empathic, person-centred therapist bringing holistic, somatic, creative and dynamic approaches to the intersections of anti-oppressive, trauma informed practice. I offer inclusive, accessible therapy that values every aspect of the client. This means that I view each client as a whole person with a unique worldview informed by the stories of their mind-body experiences. I honour the innate wisdom in all of us, and hold deep respect and compassion for people. My aim is to provide a safe, compassionate and healing space, where you can talk about, explore and find solutions to what's really happening in your life and whatever brings you to counselling. For the last 7 years I have been working with children, young people and adults in not-for-profit and private practices. Prior to that, I worked with people with disabilities and their families. I now focus on supporting young people (12+) and adults (18+) to develop insight into their current life difficulties (eg anxiety, depression, issues connecting with people), consider how they would like their life to be, and begin taking actions toward that desired life. I utilise Schema Therapy, with elements from a range of other therapy models (eg ACT, IPT, DBT, CBT) where needed, particularly when assisting people to develop new skills.

I am passionate about partnering with people to help them tolerate extreme emotion, to learn and grow and be free to choose new behaviours. I have decades of lived and years of clinical experience with Alcohol and Other Drugs use and abuse and the traumas that so often lead to it and arise from it. I have understanding of complex PTSD and the Autonomic Nervous System and the ways our experiences get laid down in our systems and repeat themselves, often causing relationship upsets.

I focus on supporting people who come from immigrant families who want to be in more control of their own lives and be more self-efficient. This includes if you: 1) want to improve how you feel and think; 2) want more out of life; 3) want to be better equipped with dealing with family, partners, friends, colleagues or new people. So if you want to enhance your ability to manage emotions or your internal voice that’s critical of you, if you want to get motivated, enhance your effectiveness in an area of life or if you just want more balance, if you want to be more self-assured or if you want support with dealing with discrimination.

How can I find a therapist in 2204?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
