Why are so many people drawn to conspiracy theories in times of crisis?

I was wondering whether researchers have monitored the brain of Gen Y or Gen i kids and found out if multi-tasking requires more use of the brain. I read that Albert Einstein would work out complex thought problems while he worked as a patent clerk. Einstein was said to use 12 to 15 percent of his brain while normal people use less than 10 percent. It would seem to me that the convergence of the human brain and technology could allow humans to increase the capacity of their brain utilization. Could technology assist the human brain to be more efficient in cataloging and retrieving thoughts?
